Altimeters

Recommended Posts

Was poking around on some websites looking for an altimeter, and found that one site, www.paraequip.com, was selling Alti III Galaxy's for $129. Any idea why this is priced so much lower than anywhere else? In other words, if it seems to good to be true...

Anyone have experience buying from this gear shop?

anybody care to elaborate on why that altimaster 2 is way more expensive then altimeter 3? Even on other sites where the 3 isn't specially lower priced?!

Yes, PEC has been around for quite some time now. The owner and his employees are great people.

Re: Black..I've worked in a gear store for a few years and black was always the first to sell out. When ordering, we always ordered more black than any other color...maybe they get a good discount when buying in bulk.....just a guess

Then I guess the next question is what are the Altimaster II pros that would make someone want to buy one instead of an Altimaster III?

Preference...

Alti II- Large altimeter...usually used on a pillow and placed on container

Alti III- wrist mount altimeter

Edit: I use the Alti II for CRW cause I don't want anything attached to my hands.

I use an Alti III for freefall cause I like my alti on my wrist.

But that's me...just preference

my guess is that altimaster II's can be used as both chest mount, and wrist mount. Altimaster III's can really only be used on the hand mount.

however, I really think the price difference is because so many more altimaster III's are made than the alti II's. Therefore, they are cheaper because there are more factories churning em out.

anyways the black alti IIIs sound like a good deal. I have a black one, and except that scratches show up a little easier on black, it works great.

Here's something funny. I surfed around their site for a bit, and found that they sell complete gear packages.

An example: A Javelin complete gear package starts at $1475 and goes up from there depending on what options you want.

However, they consider both canopies as well as everything else: altimeters, goggles, etc. to be "options."

Hmmm...:S

It sounds like they are offering the Javelin (in a package) at a base price of $1475 ...but that seems a little high for a base price...I would think that includes some option(s)...but I don't really know-I didn't contact them or ask them.

Re: canopies...there is always going to be a different charge for the canopies because they aren't all selling for the same price. That goes for mains and reserves....

It sounds a little confusing, I know....I used to have to explain 'complete gear packages'.....but not the package they are offering.

If you are looking for gear....shop around for the best price...it's all the same chit.

Yes, it's all the same chit, but it's not all the same service or customer care. Saving a few $$ up front is great, but creating a good relationship with your local shop is probably worth a bit more "down the road". Support your local gear shops!

Hey, if your local gear shop is willing to match the price..then by all means go for it. But I have found that by shopping around you can save at least a $100 and in many cases more. Personally, I don't have or want to throw away that kind of money....I'd rather use it to jump my new gear.;)

I understand that there would be a different charge for the canopies, but that's not what's happening here. You buy the Javelin for 1475, then you add the canopy at its retail price (~1500) and then the reserve at its retail price etc.

So for 1475, you do not get anything but the container. That's not exactly a complete gear package.

Anyway, I already found gear ... and I'm hoping to jump it for the presecond time tonight!
