daytripper419 0 #1 June 13, 2009 So I want to start flying with a camera and have basically decided to go with a sony cx100. First question is I found it online for $299 from http://www.86photovideo.com/products.asp?product_id=19584 Does anyone have any experience with this site as this is WAY cheaper than anyone else. Also not to get to technical but what would be a good somehwat all purpose lens be. Gonna be learning to video tandems and also be inside filming for freefly and rw. As a new camera flyer would the raynox 3032 be a good place to start? Thanx for any help in advance really appreciate it. BLues justin
PharmerPhil 0 #2 June 14, 2009 Couple of suggestions: First, check Resellerrattings for good info on 85photovideo, and other scammers. Secondly, you will likely find lots of info on this forum cautioning you to hold off on shooting video until you have more experience. A minimum of a couple hundred jumps before you even start flying with a camera. Don't take this lightly. This is good advice, and although it may be hard to hear, it comes from people with lots of experience and lots of scary lessons. Once you do decide to shoot video, tandems are not the place to start. You should totally master flying with a camera (several hundred jumps) before you even think of jumping with a tandem pair. Jumping with students is dangerous, puts others in danger, and should only occur after you have a lot of experience flying camera in the first place. It is not a place to "learn the ropes." Just my too sense...
daytripper419 0 #3 June 14, 2009 So who are some reputable sites to buy a camera from? I am interested in eventually learning to film tandems. I would be only using now for our fun jumps. So what are the pitfalls of jumping with a small top mounted camera with a helmet that has a cutaway system? Thanx for response!
dragon2 2 #4 June 14, 2009 B&H Photo, it's really not so much the helmet itself and it's snaggability as the distraction/extra workload which comes with camera flying (yes also if you only mean to "wear the camera helmet not film anything"), and yes you want the raynox hd3032 pro. ciel bleu, Saskia
ChangoLanzao 0 #5 June 14, 2009 I've been using Adorama for years. Always fast and reliable.
humbled1 0 #6 June 14, 2009 looks like a scam to me, there is alot of that in the video/camera market online. Some other companies to stay away from, regardless of how cheap the product appears, are; Broadway Photo / A&M Photo World, Regal Camera, Prestige Camera, Preferred Photo, Royal Camera Just the fact your link shows the retail price of cx100 being over 4 grand is a red flag...plus no address for their location on their site.... pretty obvious imo good luck!"Tell ya the truth, I don't think this is a brains kind of operation."
