What's the smallest ....

Recommended Posts

well, i put a 135 heatwave in a container made for a 230 skymaster. that was pretty fuckin scary. i reached back on a hop'n pop and felt the container open. so i switched that right out.

then for my current container, i have put a 74 vx in it, and i guess it is made for like a 120 non x-braced. that wasn't bad. i also put a 85 comp cobalt in there, it again, wasn't bad.

What were the results?

Container's main pack tray about half full...3 jumps. The hornet seemed faster.:P

What is the likely malfunction that will happen if you pack a canopy 20-40 ft2 smaller than what the manufacturer recomends? RWS told me you run the risk of having a horseshoe mal, can someone explain this?

I have had a Sabre 135 in a teardrop classic container that was built for a PD170 for the last 200+ jumps. It's actually surprisingly ok, but I have had to shorten the closing look a lot. Overall, it's easy to get in the bag and the closing loop is tight enough. Having said that though, I am about to order a new container!

had a Sabre2 150 packed in a Dolphin D-4 (cut for a 220-225)

Like dren, I shortened the closing loop a bit. it packed nice since the canopy was brand spankin' new, but I only test fit it for future purchases.

smallest I've had and jumped Same dolphin with a Sabre2 170. Nice fit, had to shorten closing loop a bit from my pd 190, but it fit and performed perfectly.

Yes you are correct....but the post asked for the most extreeme case and so far, that is mine.

There isn't enough fabric in the pack tray to cause the closing loop to be tight on the pin. the pin comes out without a p/c throw, horseshoe.

I got away with it cause I jump a pull out and shortened the closing loop so the flaps alone provided tension on the loop. I am not recommending
this in any way.

VX-55 into a Voodoo V00. It closes fine. I am confident I can get a 45 to close safely in there tightening the closing loop a little more. A V000 would be better but I would prefer not to go down to a PD 106 reserve hell if I could I would shoot back up to a PD 143.
If I could make a wish, I think I'd pass.

someone with the same theory as me, it doesn't matter how small your main is, as long as you have a decent sized reserve to land ya when you get open at 500 ft over the city.
