Clownburner 0 #1 June 20, 2003 Is it true that all Z1's are the same size and only the liners are different? Thanks7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth
SkySlut 0 #2 June 20, 2003 I believe that the small/medium are the same shells and the large/xlarge are the same as well, just different liners. 2 different shells, 4 liners.

VanillaSkyGirl 6 #6 June 22, 2003 Do you prefer the Z1 over other full-face helmets for some reason, Skycat, or does it just fit your head better? I may be buying a full-face this week, and I need to do much research.

I may be buying a full-face this week, and I need to do much research. I jumped an open face for 3 years and loved it. Then did the NM state record and was exiting with/right behind the base. My face got a beating on exit, I had bruises and rig burn all over my neck and chin. 2 weeks later I got a full-face. I wear my full-face for mostly doing RW, and an open face for hop-n-pops and freeflying. Only reason I haven't worn my open-face lately is cause I left my goggles in my car and they melted. If you get a Z1 replace the elastic that it comes with, with bungee. I know a lot of people who have lost thier Z1 on opening cause the elastic just couldn't hold. Also sew the excess of your chin strap where you like it so it doesn't loosen during freefall.Fly it like you stole it!
VanillaSkyGirl 6 #8 June 22, 2003 I know a lot of people who have lost thier Z1 on opening cause the elastic just couldn't hold. Good to know...thanks, girl! Yes, I am getting a full-face helmet because I am going to dedicate more time to RW. I also ordered a new custom-made RW Bev Hot Bod suit on Thursday. (I asked for a double-rush.) For freefly and canopy hop'n'pops, I have my freefly 2-piece and open face helmet!

I've seen one person replace a broken bungy with spectra line on a Z1. With that excess line flapping behind the neck it was a scary sight. He now has replaced it with bungee again. The chin strap isn't that far back on the helmet, and it's easy for a riser to catch/slap the back and rotate the helmet forward causing it to come the rest of the way off with opening shock. Just ask JumperPaula, hers did it 3 times before she lost it for good. I also know 3 airforce cadets it happened too just a few months ago. After it happened all of them changed out the elastic for bungee and had Derek sew the chin strap so it can't come loose. That is also part of the reason I sent the boomerang I bought 1st back. Other than the chin strap there was no way to tighten it down and with the chin strap way forward (like it is suppose to be)I was easily able to get it off my head.Fly it like you stole it! Amazon 7 #11 June 23, 2003 QuoteAlso sew the excess of your chin strap where you like it so it doesn't loosen during freefall. I had to sew mine in place the first day I had it.. the closure thingie works fine but the tensioner was very slippery and loosened on the first jump I used it on. Since then I have taken it over 225 MPH with no problems face into the breeze. The sizing was an issue as well. Its a tight little helmet but as long as I put my protrack in with the curved side towards the hard part of the helmet I have no problem with it. Facing the front with the buttons towards my ear does cause it to push the buttons on the protrack in freefall and I lose the data. The Z-1 openface does come with two pouches for dytters built in. Measure your head with a soft measuring tape and allow for hair in there. I use a small band to hold ponytail in place under the helmet. Amazon

Re-threading the elastic into the helmet is a real pain so I got some pretty thick stuff last time and it has held well so far. I've never heard of anyone losing their Z1 on opening - in fact I find mine to be a realy snug fit. I don't have my excess on the chin strap sewn either, but that seems like a good idea. All in all I love my Z1. Even on the very coldest winter days in England it never mists or ices up (it did once on a very cold - minus 36!!! - night jump, but that's another story altogether...). On hot summer days, I can easily get it open under canopy. In fact, I can get it open easily even when my hands are frozen! As for sizing though, yes I think the sizes are a bit smaller than other helmets on the market. I love my Z1!!! Vicki
