Grommets differences?

Recommended Posts

Stainless steel is stronger. It resists dings and scratches much better than Brass. The downside is it's also heavier than it's Brass counter part. Since it's heavier, more care needs to be taken during packing to ensure the slider stays put during deployment.

Brass dents and scratches pretty easy. Good Slider bumpers or Soft Links are a must with Brass. Number 8's have a slightly larger diameter as well.

If you are planning on using soft links then Brass is just fine. If you use Rapide links then Stainless is the way to go.

Though Stainless Grommets are still an option, Precision now recommends softlinks and Brass #8's for their sliders. As it was explained to me, the lighter material allows for a more consistant opening. The heavier stainless grommets tend to start there way down the lines quicker and that's generally not a lot of fun.

That's what I've heard, too. Heavier stainless steel slider grommets, because of their weight, build more speed and momentum on their way down the lines. =canopy spreads out/opens faster.

I liked my stainless grommets, they brought the slider farther down the lines without shaking the risers. No difference on packing or openings. On the other hand my brass grommets are larger, making slider stowing behind the head easier and safer so I'll stick with them.
