darrenspooner 0 #1 April 6, 2008 I am new to camera flying, just buying stuff at the moment and hope to be filming tandem soon. I have a PC109 and ordered a RAWA camera helmet. Will I need a wide angle lens and if so which one?
PhreeZone 20 #2 April 7, 2008 Search the forums for Wide Angle lens. You don't need one but you need to know the limitiations if you do not use one. As to which one, that is up to what you intend to use it for.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Iceburner 0 #3 April 7, 2008 i jump the same camera, and love it. as said, you dont NEED wide angle lense, but they help. It depends on what you want to use the camera for as to what type of lense you want (i.e. a 0.3 vs a 0.5). Do a search, and you'll find tons of information on it. Good luck, and have fun filming! Quincy 0 #4 April 7, 2008 Sony makes a .6 that fits the 109 without having to use any step rings. You can get it at Best Buy or Circuity City. Good price, low profile on the camera, and it does a fantastic job. Good luck... Quincy...

A lot cheaper than a super low profile lens (liquid, etc) and it's not that much bigger. If you want to video tandems then wide angle helps for in the plane/the door on exit. dragon2 2 #6 April 7, 2008 For sidemount the best lenses are the low-profile ones by cookie, waycool etc. Sony makes some crap lenses, be careful which one you get, the black .6 is a plastic piece of *** but the silver one is ok, provided the helmet case fits round it otherwise I'd advise a low profile lens. Preferably get a 37mm lens and a 37-25mm step ring so for your next camera you won't need to buy another ($$$) lens. Get a .45 (or sony .6 it's about the same angle) for outside video work, a .3 for inside (for bad freefly inside i'd advise a .45 LOL) and a .2 for AFF style inside video, this is what works for most people. ciel bleu, Saskia
DSE 5 #7 April 7, 2008 Quote For sidemount the best lenses are the low-profile ones by cookie, waycool etc. Sony makes some crap lenses, Sony has OEM's that build lenses with their name on them, they all suck, be careful which one you get, the black .6 is a plastic piece . Fixed for accuracySony's only (barely) decent lenses are OEM'd by Schneider, for their large format HDV and the new EX1. They don't have a decent (IMO) sub 62mm thread lens adapter. If you're in SD (like the 109), then the Cookie, Royal etc are the best way to go, as they offer higher resolution and better MTF.
