Hardware to work with AVCHD

Recommended Posts

Folks,

Can anyone help me out with the computer set up for working with AVCHD.

I do not yet have the camera, but it looks like the camera that I will buy later this season would be AVCHD (something like Sony CX-7).

The reason why I ask is because my desktop computer that I used to work on video just died on me (about time - this thing was 5 years old). So I want to build/buy something that would work with AVCHD in the future.

I know more is better when you talk about computer hardware for video editing, but considering that I am on a budget, I want to buy a system that would be reasonably priced and still have adequate performance with AVCHD.

The soft that I used in the past to work on the video editting was Vegas + Conopus pro + DVD Lab.
I assume I would need to buy new soft for AVCHD (probably the above set only more recent versions)

I would be very thankful if somebody could tell me what is a must have to work with AVCHD and what I could live without for now (possibly upgrade later).

Many thanks,
Anvar

I would get computer with a Core 2 Quad processor and at least 2 gig of RAM with Windows XP or 3 gig of RAM with Vista. XP can only use 2 gig of RAM max. I would format the computer and reinstall the OS to make sure you don't have anything on it you don't need. Make sure you have all the latest windows updates. Then install what ever video editing software you want. I would get Sony Vegas Pro 8 because it looks to be the best buy for what you get.
