New Helmet to compare to a Full BatRak

Recommended Posts

I like the space I have on my BatRak now but say I wanted to go to a new helmet and wanted to avoid side mounting video and keep both Vid and still on top, are there any good options? I don't really see anything that gives the space, aside from the custom helmets that are very cool. I did also find the Sky Systems Vapor Wes Pro which seems to havetons of space but are there any other options? Also I see options for top vid and forehead still but I like it all on top..

any thoughts??

I use a FTP with both video (HC96) and still (XTi) mounted on top. I do not have the wide plate. It works pretty well but would probably be a little nicer if I had the wide plate. Still, it is very doable and at least 3 people at my DZ are using this configuration (one even has a HC5 -- in a box -- for his video camera).

I just searched for some FTP pictures and it looks like yu have to stagger the Video and still on the standard plate? I did not notice any wide plates. If there are any pics with cameras on it I would appreciate it as it gives me a better reference on the set up..

Thanks

The only person I knew who jumped a wide plate was skinnyshrek.:( As for staggering the cams, depends on what cameras you have as to how well the fit will be. The extra large plate is out there by may not shown on websites, you would be best to call bonehead. I replaced my plate this summer and they asked if I wanted the larger plate, I seem to think it was the same price, 60.

BTW, there was a good priced (450) used FTP listed on here yesterday.

I have a ftp I use the longer plate. Normally I jump with two video cameras on top and invert my still from the overhang plate. that works well for me. I also have it set up so that I can remove one video camera and mount my still vertically from the top plate. I have at times jumped with two still camera on mounted vertically the other inverted horzontally. I love the freedom the ftp give me when it comes to setting up cameras the way I need.

I jump an FTP with a wider plate. Slightly out of date pic here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=45844;

'Nat-Hat silliness here: http://omniskore.com/comp/2007/usnats/fs/307.asp

The plate extends about about an inch on each side. Bonehead made it custom at my request. They charged a reasonable amount for the work, but I forget how much.

Scott Campos was working with BH on a reworked Optic Illusion. It had a large top with flat sides to you could mount stuff top or sides. Photos here.

Yeah, they were working on it, but it's been put way back on the back burner for now. Maybe forever. Other projects are taking precedence. :^(
