Kynan1 0 #1 August 15, 2007 What seems to be the best flash to use for rapidly triggering throughout the dive? Something that reloads pretty quick and gives at least 6 flashes in quick succession? Thanks in advance.
PhreeZone 20 #2 August 15, 2007 6 in rapid seccession? You are looking for something along the lines of a Speedlight 580, but all flashes recycle rate depends on a few factors including battery power and distance to object you are shooting. The 580 can recycle in .1 seconds with fresh batteries and a close object that is in constant focus but with used batteries you are looking at up to 6 seconds. Depending on the object you are shooting and how much power the flash is having to use when it fires you are looking at getting as little as 100 flashes out of the batteries or up to 700. Get rechargable batteries, you'll eat batteries otherwise.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Icon134 0 #3 August 15, 2007 I would recommend a 580EX II... and if you really want a rapid refresh rate then you can get an external battery. For skydiving you are likely primarily going to be using the flash for fill (since it's generally done in the daytime.) so the flash can be run at a reduced power which will improve the refresh rate. I haven't used my flash for skydiving yet so take my advice with a grain of salt... I have played with it on the ground a lot though... Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife... If you go to sahara camera center on eastern n(and sahara,DUH) those guys know alot and are always willing to talk. they can give you the run down of speeds and models. My photos My Videos

Canon just came out with an updated version of that flash... the 580EX II which has a faster refresh rate and is designed to be more durable/water tight/etc to bring it more in line with the Canon 1D series of cameras. Laszloimage 0 #6 August 15, 2007 Canon 580 EX Also you can use multiple flashes (if you can afford, and carry the weight) so each one of the uses less power but working together providing more light. Less power= faster recycle time. Others mentioned the batteries already... -Laszlo-
Kynan1 0 #7 August 15, 2007 Thanks for all the replies. Now for donations, just $420 and I'll get the flash. Oh, and $500 for the Sigma 10-20 lens. I should have stuck with video.
