Malev 0 #1 May 29, 2003 Hi all, Now that I'm progressing through AFF, I'm starting to think about getting my own stuff. Most of it isn't a problem at the moment since I am still paying for rig etc as part of the course, and there is a reasonable jumpsuit which fits nicely at the DZ. What is most pressing at the moment is decent head gear,, particularly since I wear contacts, so if anyone has any suggestions I would be be very grateful. Although it is early days yet, chances are that it would be mainly used for RW and freeflying. Looking at previous posts, it appears that Sorz goggles are very good for contact wearers (do they require tapeing up?). The mirror blue look nice, does anyone know if this causes any visiblity problems? On helmets, is a full-face with a visor recommended or can this cause problems? Should you wear goggles underneath this (I am guessing this is not a bad idea)? Cheers for any help/suggestions,
ERICCONNELLY 0 #2 May 29, 2003 Most of these questions aer a matter of personal taste. I would caution against wearing goggles under a full face helmet as they can fog up. I use a full face for RW and a open face with dark tinted goggles for flying camera. but that's just my personal preference. Try B4 U Buy.
Watcher 0 #3 May 29, 2003 I wear contacts. I jump a Skysystems Oxygn. I have never ever had a single problem with the helmet in relation to contacts (or anything else for that matter). The helmet creates a nice calm enviroment for your head. I personally wear it on all jumps right now, I also own a Nvertigo X that I have not put a single jump on yet (owned it since January, brand new). I will probably only consider using it for camera unless I can talk Skysystems into making me a Sidewinder. Go with full face, although I don't know if they will let you wear it for AFF, I would let you wear it cause once you get used to it you can really see the expressions on the face, and itrs easier to concentrate on the dive. Best of luck on the rest of your progression. --Jonathan Bartlett D-24876 AFF-I
Malev 0 #4 May 29, 2003 Quote Go with full face, although I don't know if they will let you wear it for AFF Some more research has dug up the fact that BPA rules don't let you wear a full-face until you have a B license (and even then it is at the discretion of the CCI), so that limits things slightly. I'll ask about at the DZ this weekend and see what the situation is.
