SkymonkeyONE 4 #3 May 12, 2007 I have a 30mm .3 lens on mine. I found the cheapest and most readilly-available step-up to simply be a UV filter. It steps up the 25mm PC 109 size to 30mm and I paid like seven bucks for it at Best Buy.
Iceburner 0 #4 May 13, 2007 does the uv filter mess up any of the picture quality?
DSE 5 #5 May 13, 2007 A filter inserted behind a wide angle will usually create refraction/reflections, so in a way, yes, it will mess up image quality. A UV on it's own will increase contrasts and give you a generally more saturated image. It'll clean up blue castes, and depending on the glass, will warm up your image. One thing a UV filter can also do, is strip some of the blues from the sky, since you've now removed the UV. Step up rings are cheap; there are kits of various sized stepup rings that can be purchased on Ebay for around 5.00 or so. They're cheap aluminum, but they work just fine. you might want to put some nose oil in the threads to keep them smooth.
SkymonkeyONE 4 #6 May 15, 2007 Quotedoes the uv filter mess up any of the picture quality? The professional video guy who answered before me might have confused you a bit, but in simple terms, my answer is "no." Not for the video you are going to produce with a PC 109 anyway. Another thing: good luck finding simple step-up rings for your camera locally. There were quite a few camera shops in the last town I lived in and none of them had anything I needed. They didn't even know where they might get any in that size. E-bay is an option I guess, but what a fucking pain in the ass. Particularly when BestBuy has the product I mentioned hanging on the rack. Iceburner 0 #7 May 16, 2007 Thanks for the info....i will be going to best buy here and trying to get a simple UV Filter... as for the videos i am going to be making, it's just the normal tandem video (interview before, half way up, the jump, interview after) and fun jumps.
