WayneRATS 0 #1 May 27, 2003 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3610501738 found that while i was browsing ebay for a cheap alti to get me started.. i only have 7 sl jumps (lol) but i'm a gearfiend and this sounds like the compleate solution to audible/visual alti and logging system.. (pro dyter?) is it worth me saving to get this as opposed to a "normal" clock face type alti (which are about £100 at our dz) this works out about £160------------------------ Can You Ere Me Now? andy2 0 #3 May 27, 2003 I'm a beginner like yourself, the neptune acts as EITHER an alti or an audible. Do you really expect to hear the bleeping in freefall when its on your wrist? It looks REALLY cool though, and I am considering getting one. It looks smaller than a digitude, anyone know dimension comparisons? -edit - consider changing the title of your post to include something about neptune, it'll get the attention of folks who have researched the hell out of this peice of gear and decided to buy it for whatever reason. (pro dyter?) pro-track...the visual altimeter would be nice, but think i will stick with L&B and the pro-track...L&B is hands down the dope-show when it comes to customer service, i have never come across any company (inside or outside of skydiving) that can even hold a candle to them.... Edit to say their products totally kick ass too!!!! --------------------- Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience! Have you dealt with Alti-2? They put out a great product and their customer service isn't too shabby either. TheMonkey 0 #6 May 27, 2003 i wear one of their altimeters, and i am pretty sure that i didn't knock anyone.... Edit to add: it's just that when i lost my pro-track from riser slap on opening when the clip broke, L&B sent me a new one free of charge...that is what i call customer service! BikerBabe 0 #8 May 28, 2003 true, but I never understood the point of this product, anyway. Either you use it like a protrack, or you use it like a digitude. So why should I get rid of my perfectly serviceable alti-2 and my perfectly serviceable protrack to buy one of these? Or should I buy two? You can't use both functions at the same time, unless the beeping is REALLY loud! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! andy2 0 #9 May 28, 2003
It can be mounted to your helmet just like other audibles
Sorry my post was unclear, YES it can be mounted onto your helmet, I was just making the point that it cannot be simultaneously used as a audible and a visual alti as the original poster suggested. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... I happen to prefer a digital altimeter, and I think the logging feature alone is probably worth the extra $50. The part that I'm a gadget freak probably has something to do with it. I've also never used one of these things, but I'm probably getting one sight-unseen based on my personal experience and other's experiences with Alti-2's customer service. nacmacfeegle 0 #11 May 28, 2003 At 7s/l jumps, you still have another 20-30 jumps on student gear. Your DZ will probably include the cost of alti hire in your jumps, students bad news gear a lot more, you will drop altis, scuff up containers etc. So why not grow out of the dropsies and stoofs on somebody elses equipment. You are being charged for it anyway. An electronic logger is not really as useful as it sounds at this stage, you still need to maintain paper logs with instructor's signatures, and its not as if you are doing so many jumps per day that you can't keep track of them. An audible is always useful, but discuss their use with your instructors, you shouldn't need one till you are off student status. At this time you will need your money for coach jumps, gear, more jump tix, celebration beer, trips abroad, etc. By all means buy one if you must satisfy gear lust, but the cash could be put to better use at this stage in your development.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. TALONSKY 0 #13 May 28, 2003 I would have to say that I doubt any company out there skydive related or not backs their product like L & B. When a company will replace the item, when it is lost do to no fault of the companies that is a pretty incredible company. I have heard may times that people have had a riser strike their helmet knocking the Protrack off and L & B replaced them free of charge. Kirk

But if he's gonna get it anyway why not get it now so he will at least have the data from close to the beggining of his jumping career. I got a pro-track at about Jump#135 and it takes me forever to input all those missing jumps manually. Of course it doesn't help that I can type a lick. riddler 0 #16 May 29, 2003 Quoteit doesn't cost a whole lot more than a Digitude. Good point, indyz. I'm thinking most people considering a Digitude will be willing to pay the extra $50 for the smaller alti with all the extra features. This may be bad for Altitude Concepts. Personally, I hope there's room for everyone in the market, but I think they will have to come out with a newer, better product to compete.Trapped on the surface of a sphere.
