blueshrew 0 #1 May 26, 2003 There was a similar post a while ago, which does not exactly answer my question though. I have been packing a few different Velocities the past weeks. One in particular started having openings that were way too slow all of a sudden. Whether I pack or the owner does, it doesn't make much of a difference. We've tried everything with the slider, and nothing changes the problem. Those super slow opening mean that it snivels to one side eventually. The problem seems to have gotten worse with new steering lines (only the lower half changed). His friend, another Velocity jumper that I pack for suggested we spray silicone at the top of the lines so the slider can slip down more easily. He'd heard that from someone in Eloy. Has anyone heard of this before? I'm guessing the canopy has 300 - 600 jumps on it. So it shouldn't be that.
AggieDave 6 #2 May 26, 2003 A jumper on my DZ had to send his brand new Velocity back in for inspection, it was opening very odd, doing different things. It was packed by him (who is a rigger and a very good packer), it was packed by Pablito (another very good packer) and a few other packers on the DZ (who are all pretty good packers), no change, nothing better, nothing worst, still odd. I guess the moral of the story is call PD and talk to them about it. That's what we did, and now the canopy is back in FL getting inspected and repaired/changed as needed.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Rdutch 0 #3 May 27, 2003 I have noticed, in time the vectran lines become rough, more abrasive, so it is a little harder for the slider to slide down, (Just like Dacron) I have a tube of this waxy substance that was sent to me from a Vectran line manufacturer, they supply this wax to archery stores to lubricate bow strings, they claim it lengthens the life of the string considerably. I have new lines on my canopy so I havent used it just yet, but I will soon, just on the uppers, and my lower control lines. And only a little, a Test area. You can search around, (It took me forever) but you can find a few topics on Vectran lines and lubrication, they recommend at least a 50 % silicone. The stuff I have is a silicone, wax mix that is supposed to not attract dirt, which will shorten the life of your ine through abrasion. But if you feel like taking a chance, you can find a bunch of wax solutions at an archery supply store, there is even special Vectran Wax available. Good luck, and let me know your results.
