wonko 0 #1 May 23, 2003 Hi wise (wo)men out there! I tried some rear riser landings recently. Well, it was extremely hard to pull these slippery narrow risers down and almost impossible to keep there! I think maybe some kind of loop (like a dive loops on front riser) would help much if I really have no other choice than rear risers to land with. Has anybody heard about such constructions? Thanks, -wonko-villem life is what you make it to be http://www.youtube.com/villu357 http://www.flickr.com/photos/skybound
PhreeZone 20 #2 May 23, 2003 Instead of loops... look into Dive Blocks. A search on the fourms will yield a lot of info on them. Its not hard to grab the riser and twist and pull though, CRW jumpers do it for 80% or more of their jump.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
skygod7777 0 #3 May 23, 2003 where are you grabbing the riser?? i had this problem the first time i tried, and it was because i was grabbing too far down the riser. if you grab as far up as you can, like above the guide ring, it kinda gives ya something to grip onto it seams like. later

davelepka 4 #6 May 23, 2003 I would be weary of putting my hands into a loop on the rear riser. Anyway, try pulling the rear risers out instead of down. Try it first at altitude, but I think you will find it much easier.
SkymonkeyONE 4 #7 May 23, 2003 Agreed. I pull out and slightly back; never down.
relyon 0 #8 May 23, 2003 Try blocks wrapped with Vetrap. Very easy to grab and put anywhere you want with nothing to get snagged on. Bob
riggerrob 643 #9 May 26, 2003 Try doing more chin-ups to improve your grip strength. If I can do rear riser flares on tandems, you should be able to do them on solo canopies.
relyon 0 #10 May 27, 2003 I'll assume your reply wasn't directed at me. I do nothing but CRW and most jumps are 5-10 minutes of non-stop pullups. I wear out the palms on a pair of Neumann tackified gloves in 75-100 jumps. Grip strength has never been an issue for me. Bob
