jose 0 #1 May 22, 2003 Ok, I am about to receive my Safire2 in the mail, and I still dont have any risers for it. I have looked at all the online stores, but I have not had alot of luck finding any listings for risers. I am looking for 17 inch mini-risers. I have NO idea what manufac. to go with. All I know is that I do not want velcro and would like a style that works well with dropping the slider, and one that works well with the use of dive loops. What I mean is with the toggle style the dive loops is easy to get in and out of. I plan on using s-links as well. Some direction here would kick ass. dsbbreck 0 #3 May 22, 2003 Contact the manufacture of your container directly. They should have what you want. jeremyneas 0 #4 May 22, 2003 17 inch risers or "camera flyer risers" are a hard find, they usually have to be specially ordered through the manufacturer. if your not particular, you can find 20 inch risers almost anywhere, just pick up the phone and call a major dealer or the manufacturer. jose 0 #5 May 22, 2003 Ok, camera flyer risers? I must have been given bad info. I was told by a Icarus rep that I should get the 17inch risers. Is this length not common? How do differnent lengths play into thier purpose? David, I have lifted my Gag Order as Peter has dropped the restraining order. I hear you are the newest member of the bunch. P.S. Next time you see John, ask him if I need to bring a donut to LP for him. He'll get it.
Kris 0 #6 May 22, 2003 Unless you have really short arms, the standard length is 20". Generally, people with shorter arms (usually smaller women) get 18" risers, and the longer-limbed folks can get 22" risers. The problem with risers that are too short is that it takes away from your control range as you are essentially moving the control range down. If you use 18" instead of 20", that's 2 inches of flare that you lose unless you have slack that you can take out of your brake lines. Conversely, 22" risers would give you an extra 2" of flare over 20" risers. Longer risers also allow the canopy to spread out more allowing a flatter planform.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
jose 0 #7 May 22, 2003 Thanks Kris, that clears some things up. I will more than likely get the 20's, but I will just measure my current ones to compare. I still do not find any risers on the net, even at rigging innovations. Any ideas?
hookitt 1 #8 May 22, 2003 How Tall are you? I'm 5'6" I've jumped 18s most of my carreer. 17's are very little. I'm going with 19's and maaaayyybe 20's for my next set since I'm looking for a change. The Control range is not much of an issue but it does make the canopy feel just a bit different. There is only so far you can flare and have it be affective so I wouldn't worry too much about that. However unless you're smaller than I am get the 19's.My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

rapper4mpi 0 #12 May 22, 2003 What you are looking for are type 17 mini ring risers. You can order them from all rig manufacterers. Here are prices that I recently looke into: Relative Workshop: Type17, mini ring, stainless steel, riser inserts, Tru-Lock toggles and hard cable housings. $145.00 Mirage Systems: Type17, mini ring, stainless steel, riser inserts, velcro-less toggles and hard cable housings. $130.00 Your best bet is to get them from the manufacterer of your rig. The length depends on your rig size and your individual reach. -Rap

jeremyneas 0 #14 May 22, 2003 You may prefer any length, but the reason 17" risers are called camera flyer risers is because their wings connected may hinder their arm movement in an emergency so they just lowered the controls for them. Yes they do take off the flare but unless your flaring to maximum arm length it really isn't an issue. The reason longer risers (21+") are becoming more popular is becuase swoopers are looking for maximum range of flare and more front riser throttle. Too long a riser could be a problem (i don't know your specs) but 17's won't affect your performance at all unless your in it for the swoop. 18-20" is a good all around range for anyone. rogue108 0 #17 May 22, 2003 You should be able to buy risers from any rig manufacturer. Usually people go with risers that are the same make as their rig. Unless you like some special riser that another manufacturer makes. Any Master Rigger should be able to custom make a set of risers for you. I had set made by Mark Kruse at X-Keys to my specs. Not that they were that special
SkymonkeyONE 4 #18 May 23, 2003 Jim Cazer makes great risers. Actually, he provides a lot of the risers, bridles, and pilot chutes used in production rigs. Chuck

Skydive2 1 #20 May 23, 2003 Buying new risers from the manufacturer will usually take a while. I was looking for a new pair for a friend of mine, and the 3 big container manufacturers that I called all said it would be about a 2-3 week wait, because they don't normally keep stuff like that on the shelf. Fortunately, Sunpath had 1 pair on the self that I was able to get. Other wise I was looking at a LONG wait Lance
