Shaping D-BOX, no dremel,, suggestions

Recommended Posts

i would like to widen the front of the d-box to fit my wide angle lens.. i need to shave about 1/4 inch on each side where the lens comes out of the d-box... i dont have access to a dremel. has anyone used sanders or other tools. i read the other posts, to put the camera in another room, wear a mask, and use a sealant after the clean up. i am looking for tool choice advice as i have never worked with carbon fiber. it is for a dc-42 with a .5 lens on a 25mm fitting. thanks

Trace out the area you want to cut then use a thin blade like on the hobby saw. Cut to the inside of the line and then you can just clean up sanding by hand. Start with a 120 rolled like a cigar and go higher.
you can use rubber trim in which case you don't really have to seal. You can get that in different auto/ auto spares stores or even a hardware. Use contact adhesive. Different trade names in different countries but pretty much the same powerful yellow stuff worldwide.
If you really want to seal it, make a hot coat with polyester sanding resin or polyester laminating with some wax solution. Quick and easy using a resin paintbrush, and you shouldn't even really need pigment for colour. This of course is assuming the helmet is polyester otherwise it's epoxy but I doubt it.
you can do all this in you r garage and you can wear a mask if you really want to.
Good luck

Is your profile accurate? If it is you should go ahead and consult with a camera person at your DZ regarding this project. They might tell you that you need more jumps. If they don't tell you that, I am sure someone at your DZ has a dremel tool that you can use. I think you would be hard pressed to find a DZ where no one has one or knows someone they can borrow one from. Hell, I keep mine in my DZ locker.

On a completly different note, 70 jumps is not enough to be straping a camera to your head.
