peterpan 0 #1 September 25, 2006 Is anybody out there using one of the sony DCR-SR80 60GB Handycam® CamcorderspacerDCR-SR80 in free fall. If so how is it going and how did you get around the HDD Smart Protection A unique Shock Absorber protects the Hard Disk Drive from physical damage if the unit is dropped. When the 3G Sensor detects a drop (loss of gravity) the power to the Hard Disk Drive is turned off in order to prevent damage, during this time the DCR-SR80 remains powered on and recording video to the built-in buffer. Once the unit has recovered from the drop the buffer is then recorded to the Hard Disk Drive. Pleases let me know if you have anything to say about this camera your any of a similar types. AndyMan 7 #2 September 26, 2006 No. All but the most expensive hard drives can (will...) fail catestrophically when used above 10,000 feet MSL. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
DSE 5 #3 September 26, 2006 No one is using the DSR 60, because no one can get access to them. I've tested it on 12 jumps with a pre-production HVR V1U, and it worked great. However...that was also at Skydive Greensburg, and altitude wasn't much above 10kMSL. I'll have a pre-production, RTM version later this week that we'll jump; I'll let you know. However, I'm expecting it to fail; so is Sony.

newshooter12 0 #5 September 27, 2006 it's not so much sony that is failing... it's the hard disc. a solid state version would work much better IMHO.
