LouDiamond 1 #1 August 17, 2006 Just caught the last half of what turned out to be an interesting show on video editting through the ages. The show was on the Encore channel and it was called Cutting edge: Magic of movie editing While it won't outright teach you how to make your skydiving movies better(its a documentary), it will give you insight on some commonly used techniqes, some of which are older than you think, that you could potentialy use to better edit your skydiving movies and make them more interesting. If you're into editing, it will interest you to hear what many of todays and yesterdays great directors and editors do/did to make their film(s) standout. If you're into editing its worth the time to check it out. For even more skydiving specific editting tips, I recommend you sit in on the film editing seminars usualy held during the Eloy Holiday boogie. Last time it was given, Greg Gasson and Brent Finley brought their editing systems as well as pieces of thier work and showed how and why certain things work and don't work in skydiving videos. What I learned from that seminar combined with what I just saw in the above mentioned documentary, I have an even greater appreciation for those who actually make and edit big screen movies."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
Deuce 1 #2 August 18, 2006 Dude, the number one thing you'll get out of both Gasson and Finley is "don't do a video" of something where there is a deadline. It's incredibly hard and Iwan had to step up to get this year's Holiday Boogie done. I look forward to seeing a Birdman project from you. I'm absolutely sure you have amazing footage from all over the world. I'd love to see some birdman over that big Jesus statue in Rio. Bring it MONKEY! leroydb 0 #3 August 18, 2006 Hey Scott I am looking at getting a new editing platform soon. I was thinking I want a dual core or dual processor 3.0ghz or higher, with 2-4gig of ram minimum? What is the hot thing on the market now for editing HD video? Mods; feel free to split this off to a new post... LouDiamond 1 #4 August 19, 2006 Check out this Thread. Had I not wanted a notebook, I'd have gone with a MAC Pro and the same 30" HD display. The Mac Pro's performance and scalability is incredible and more economical than a comparable Dell system. You want 2-4 gigs of Ram minimum? The Mac Pro can handle up to 16 gigs RAM and up to 2TerraBytes of Space. It all depends on how much of your bonus you want to spend."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

mr2mk1g 10 #6 November 14, 2006 I've just been watching this docu - I have to say it's fantastic. I'm only half way though (as I'm watching it over lunch) so saw the opposite part to you Lou... It's good - I'd urge people to go find it. Any skydiving editor will recognise many of the concepts they discuss such as agonising over exactly which individual frame to use as your cut.
