AndyMan 7 #1 June 30, 2006 I've been asked to photograph a demo team jumping into a minor league baseball game, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do it. They're looking for pictures that show them flyin above the stadium. The team does lightly loaded CRW, and usuall flies a 3-stack into the stadium. They suggested that I get a CRW canopy, and fly the top spot so that I can take a picture down the stack and show the stadium below. I think I'd be comfortable doing this if we had a ton of time to practice.... but we don't, so this does not seem wise. My second thought is to simply chase them... I know I can do this safely, but I'm concerned here about taking away from the performance of the team. A 3-stack with a 4th guy flying around just doens't seem as profesional, never mind that it'd be tough to coordinate my landing with theirs. My third thought is to chase them, then intentionaly land out. I'm sure other photographers have undertaken a task like this... How did you get good air shots of a demo team going into a stadium? _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
vdschoor 0 #2 June 30, 2006 I dont know how much CRW experience you have, but with my experience, I'd pick the one with the 4th person flying above it.. For the audience it might not look as cool, but you will get the coolest photos that way. Also.. there are some direct air-to-ground tools available out there that you might be able to use.. in which case people can see what's going on in the air directly on a big screen.. Do what you feel comfortable with, flying into a demo is a high stress jump anyways.. add to that that you are flying into a stadium.. even more of a stress situation.. BlueSBDeath 2 #3 July 1, 2006 Do it with a long lens. Not the standard TM FF lens, maybe the 55mm or something like that. Just remember the siting is more critical. Best of luck, and please share how it goes and some pictures!! ArvelBSBD...........Its all about Respect, USPA#-7062, FB-2197, Outlaw
AndyMan 7 #4 August 6, 2006 Well, I ignored all this good advice and did it Saturday. We spent most of the last few weekends practicing. The jump went off without a hitch, I flew a 4-stack in, which broke to two 2-stacks, then we broke those and all landed right by 2st base. What a rush! The spot wasn't perfect, and we ended up breaking the 4-stack before I could get the shot I wanted. Too bad, but we still managed a great professional show. A few pictures attached. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
