schwede 0 #1 May 12, 2003 At www.vigil.aero there is a presentation for a new AAD with at least a 20 years lifespan.. Looks very much like the Cypres II but cheaper and longer life time... Anyone heard anything of this one???Schwede "Das Leben ist schön, nicht immer aber immer öfter"

jerry81 10 #3 May 12, 2003 I'm a bit confused. You can already order it online, but in another section of their webpage it says that 180 units will be given to teams, instructors... in June 2003 for beta testing. Beta testing, if I understand correctly, is done by end users before a product is put on the market so flaws that might have been missed by the manufacturer can be reported (I'd hate to imagine what that could mean in the case of an aad). But anyway, it is nice- longer life time, free cutter replacement in case of a life-saving fire, costs as much as the old cypres and can even withstand some water. Think I can get one for free 'beta testing'?

nacmacfeegle 0 #5 May 12, 2003 A different couloured mouse trap?, maybe a shiney one! BMFin 0 #12 May 12, 2003 Where did you find about the 20 year lifespan ? By that do you mean a 20 year battery lifespan ?
SkydiveMonkey 0 #13 May 12, 2003 Does a CyPReS battery last for 12 years? . I'm guessing same deal. ____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
PhreeZone 20 #14 May 12, 2003 They actually bill the unit as being maintence free for 20 years. One thing to note that unless there is a US service center the cost if there is maintence like batteries could go way up since you now have to pay shipping back to France for everything. Anyone have any idea how long it takes things to get through Customs from the US to France and back?Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
SkydiveMonkey 0 #15 May 12, 2003 I would guess that they don't include changing a battery as maintenance. ie. you don't need to ship it off every 4 year.____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
BMFin 0 #16 May 12, 2003 I just recieved an email from vigil. The battery lifespan is 4 years or 700jumps

Ducky 0 #21 May 14, 2003 New batteries every 4 years , but not a factory "maintenance". Suits me fine. kwakSometimes your the bug, sometimes your the windshield. PhreeZone 20 #22 May 14, 2003 Quick question, if it turns out 3 years after release that there is a glitch in the software that needs updating or that after 6 years one of the capasitors tends to burn out how would or will this issues be addressed? At least with a scheduled maintece the unit can be cleaned, calabrated, and any updates applied to it that are needed on a schedule instead of on a recall basis.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Ducky 0 #23 May 14, 2003 I would hope that the manufacturer would handle like most any other does and issue a recall to correct the problem. kwakSometimes your the bug, sometimes your the windshield. schwede 0 #24 May 14, 2003 I seem to remember almost the same discussion when the Cypres hit the market in the early 90's. A decade later we see some interesting alternatives to show up. However I do believe that these questions should be put directly to the manufacturer as they are the only ones who can answer such questions... However, I'm willing to give this new one a shot at it and put pressure on Airtech to live up to their first promises of a lifetime of the unit "as long as you'll be jumping"...Schwede "Das Leben ist schön, nicht immer aber immer öfter"
