Bullet Cams?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys
I'm thinking of buying some kit to use for other things, but that I could use later whilst skydiving when I've got more experience.

I was thinking of a bullet cam like one of these http://www.sports-camera.com/ connected to a mini digital video recorder like an Archos AV400.

Most cameras I see in skydiving are miniDV and nearly all Sony. I understand the Sony cameras are respected as the best for coping with the changing light and other aspects of skydiving. They also allow direct digital copies using firewire.

Now, the bullet cam connects to the DVR via analogue AV IN rather than DV IN but can record in AVI format. It also uses a HiRes Sony CCD.

So, does anybody have any thoughts on problems I'd have using this set-up for skydiving? It would only be for personal use so losing a bit of convenience and a bit of quality is OK but I woudn't want something that was poor quality or just won't work.

I've never seen a bullet cam set-up used so I'm figuring there is something I'm missing.

Thanks

Tom

Harddrive and freefall don't mix well

There are solid state recording options out there. I'm not talking about the Samsung, so whoever was getting ready to attack on that one, can chill out.

The archos is a bad idea because of the hard drive. PM me if you want and I can let you know some details about a really nice solid state recorder coming out, which I should have a "beta" version of within the next week (I don't want to tell anyone else it's worth ordering until I have experience with it).
