SSkydiver 0 #1 May 10, 2003 Just got a used Sabre2 170 and i need to get a pilot shut. I havent checked with PD yet because of the weekend and i havent talked to my rigger yet but what size pc should i get. I'm 190 out the door if that makes a difference. AggieDave 6 #2 May 10, 2003 Your PC isn't dependent on the canopy you jump (usually), its apart of your container system. You should call the container manufacture and ask them what is required. If you don't want to get one from them, then may I sugest you try Jim Czar.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." sunshine 2 #3 May 10, 2003 It's true that the PC is part of the container, but the wrong size PC can affect the opening of a canopy. I have a Sabre2 170 and recently had to change PCs. The one i had that came with my container was too big. I was getting slammed on openings. I now have one that was made by Para Concepts and my openings are much sweeter. I went from a 34inch to a 31inch. I also have a shorter bridle. It's amazing what a difference a PC can make. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! AggieDave 6 #4 May 10, 2003 Yup. Although, besure to talk to the container manufacture about this before you change. Talking to HeatherB (when she was still wing Sunrise Rigging), we discussed a guy who downsized his PC from 28" to 22" for a specific canopy, then had severe PC hesitation and eventually a PC in tow mal. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." After consulting with the 2 master riggers at Para Concepts, I see no need to talk to Sunpath. Also the PCs they make at Para Conepts are a cool design that uses no metal parts. Sunpath sent me the PC they thought i needed, but after getting slammed numerous times it was obvious they sent me one that was too damn big. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! ZigZag 0 #6 May 10, 2003 Depending on the size of container, some(most) manufacturers will supply a P/C appropriate to the size of canopy that will fit into the main pack tray. Of issue is, when you buy "used" equipment, and end up with dis-proportionate components, in other words, parts that have been replaced or exchanged, without regard to the system they are to support. Small high performance canopies, for example, could experience some serious problems from large P/C's with a malfunctioning(broken) kill-line during a high speed swoop, due to excessive drag on the center cell, thereby distorting the airfoil!!! Too short a bridle will affect the deployment for "Wingsuit" jumpers and others, so you have to match the components judiciously, for the purpose intended, and then you have to maintain the system as such. The equipment offered today "is" better, but each discipline cannot be "grandfathered" into the next. Changing P/C size can be a revelation and answer to deployment problems, but understanding why is equally important.

As mentioned above, i'm not looking to get slammed because i have the wrong pc. The Sabre2 isnt installed yet and was trying to be proactive in making sure i have the right pc to do the job and get good openings. I need to measure my current main pc and see what size it is. skycat 0 #9 May 10, 2003 Quotejimcazer@aol.com I don't think that email works. I've emailed him twice now to the email address about an improperly made pilotchute (tapes not sewn on the bias) that I have that was made by him and have not heard back from him.Fly it like you stole it!
