jtval 0 #1 April 4, 2006 Just curious. how do you act in freefall when you are filming a tandem? do you just sit there and film or do you go crazy chering and hooting and hollering ? I definitely go crazy. I may dock on occasion but 99.9 % of the time I am "whoooo Hooing" giving the thumbs in ear tongue out ( unless I'm shooting stills) face, blowing kisses etc. I find that when I dont do that the student is usually brainlocked and scared shitless. but if they see me having fun they loosen up...and it makes better video. how do you act?My photos My Videos
velocityphoto 0 #2 April 5, 2006 Dock on e'm and take e'm for a spin! It makes for a great video .Interact with your passengers and they love it . I always let them know ahead of time the dive flo ,so there are no suprizes. A friend will bail you out of jail , a REAL friend will be sitting next to you in the cell slapping your hand saying "DUDE THAT WAS AWSUM " ................ Dokeman 0 #4 April 5, 2006 It depends on the passenger... i always give the talk about dont stair at the ground, look at me, if you have your arms out, i might come grab ya, let me grab you, you dont grab me kinda thing.. Depends on what they are doing. i always take stills so not so much talking. But if they are geeking the camera and having fun on their own, then I sit back and let let do their thang.. If they just sit there I will give them some had signs, ie thunbs, give em the finger, grab their hands and take em for a ride or whatever im feeling at the moment. Just depends on the passenger and the TI.
ltdiver 3 #5 April 5, 2006 I have mixed feelings about this. Personal experience here...When I, myself, was introduced to skydiving I did a tandem. I did not get video. Looking back on it I kinda wish I had...ya know, the first jump wonderment and something you'll never experience as a 'first' again... However, on the other hand, I'm glad that I didn't. Some cameraflyers fly SO close that if I had gotten one of them I wouldn't have enjoyed the view and experience as intensely. (and yes, I -did- see the scenery in freefall.) Palm Springs with it's beautiful surrounding mountains in front of you and numerous golf courses dotting the ground under you! I would have missed all that if someone had been blocking my view. So yeah, it's nice to get a video/stills of your first jump, but don't fly so close (all the time) that your customer gets gypped out of the whole experience. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
Peej 0 #6 April 5, 2006 I don't shoot stills just yet so i can smile at them in the air. I also brief them on the ground that i'm gonna come in close, tell them to look at me and tell them that it helps to breath through their teeth so it looks like they're smiling. I also sometimes put out my hand for a high five or give them two thumbs up. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
Shyandinnocent 0 #7 April 5, 2006 I often find that if a customer is only looking at the ground, and not up at me, I can get them to notice the camera by hanging off the wings and getting right under and up in their face. After that, they usually notice that I am there, and interact with me/the camera much more. I don't usually grab them, as I do not wish to risk them grabbing me and holding on at release time. Might get my teeth kicked in, and I don't have dental insurance... It's never too late for a low turn!
steveorino 7 #8 April 5, 2006 If they are staring at the ground the whole dive I will give them a "noogie" (rub their head). Being a Texan living in Okiehoma, I give them the Texas "hook 'em" sign. If they are aware (and an Okie) they usually will give me their lame "down with horns" sign. Of course the TM is aware and he always responds. steveOrino
davelepka 4 #9 April 5, 2006 Quotetongue out ( unless I'm shooting stills) If you have a tounge switch, you can shove it to the side, stick your tounge out, and if you're quick, catch the still when they do it back to you. All of the above can also be done while chewing gum. It's amazing what you'll come up with to keep yourself busy during drouge-fall.
