Quick Release Ring Sight

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anybody had thoughts (good or bad) about making a quick release ring sight. When I am freeflying I'd rather lose the sight. But, when I'm shooting tandems I need it. Also, when I'm traveling it would be nice to be able to take the sight off.

Yes, I'm a big baby and three screws is a pain in the ass for me.

Is this something other people would be interested in?

I chalk it up to my lack of experience filming tandems and not explicitly shooting video when I'm freeflying. You raise a good point thoug, I might find myself in a different position down the road.

But, I still see myself wanting to take my sight off when I throw my helmet in a bag and when I'm just doing a low key freefly jump and still want to catch video.

An X-shut aluminium quick release could be used for that. I just received one yesterday, (stainless steel version - for mounting the stills) and that thing is tiny, very light and wonderfully built. It is unfortunately kind of expensive.

An interface would have to be built to allow the Shumaker ringsight mount to be screwed with the nylon screws to the dettachable part of the X-shut.

I feel the same need, specially to carry the helmet around without disaligning the sight or breaking the tiny nylon screws. (which are a pain in the ass to find this side of the Atlantic - Shumaker should produce a metric version of this mount[:/])

When I mounted the ringsight internally on my Flat Top Narrow, I used a two piece post (similar to a two piece pool cue) so I could remove the ringsight without altering its adjustment. Since all the hardware was mounted internally, when the sight was removed, there was nothing else left exposed on the outside of the helmet.
