psw097 0 #2 February 22, 2006 Sould've just called it a 20Dn or mk II. Not much of an upgrade for an 18 month lifecycle. Canon fell behind the Nikon D200 with this one. Now, the Olympus E-330 is a cool idea. Useless for jumping but innovative and forward thinking at least, not just repackaging the same old thing. Miami 0 #3 February 22, 2006 Agreed, not much of an upgrade, but it should help the price of the 20d drop faster! One feature I do like on the 30d is the almost double the burst capability in RAW...11 frames instead of 6. Being able to change from 5 to 3 fps is kinda neat.Miami
dragon2 2 #4 February 22, 2006 Smart name, since there already was a D30 ciel bleu, Saskia
psw097 0 #5 February 22, 2006 6 frames in raw was a step backwards since the 10D was 9 - and its well behind Nikon. The 5 fps is available all the time now - the 20D was restricted based on the focus mode and lens type.
Miami 0 #6 February 22, 2006 Quote6 frames in raw was a step backwards since the 10D was 9... Don't know if I would necessarily call it a step backwards...the 20d has a lot more information to write in a shorter period of time. The 10d is taking RAW photos at 6.3mp (or something around there) and taking 3 seconds to take 9 frames. The 20d is taking it's RAW photos at 8.7mp and gets 6 frames off in 1.2 seconds. I see what you mean about the shorter burst but I would more consider it a step sideways. The 30d, on the other hand, is also shooting it's RAW photos at 8.7mp and is able to go 11 frames in 2.2 seconds before it has to write to the card...pretty impressive upgrade if you ask me!Miami
