Thanatos340 1 #1 May 8, 2003 I am almost finished with AFF and I am looking to start accumulating my own gear. I am planning on holding off on a Rig until I hit about 50 to 100 Jumps but I do want to go ahead and start buying the basics. My primary interest is RW and good old faction Belly Flying. It will be a while before I Stand on my head (intentionally anyway). After shopping around online, I found the following Items that I am considering ordering... Mindwarp Millennium ProTrack Altimaster Galaxy Blaze Goggles Flightsuit I know the mindwarp is primarily a FreeFly Helmet. Is there any reason I should consider a different Brain Bucket if I am primarily interested in RW? Is there anywhere online that I can use one of those Gear Color Thingies to play around with designing a jump suit? All I can find are the ones for Canopies and Containers Any reasons that a new jumper should wait a while before making these purchases or other things that I should consider first? Since I am still on Student Status for 2 more jumps (therefore exempt from Beer Rules) look at all the money I can save by buying all this at one time and jumping it all for the first time while still exempt from BEER!! CrazyIvan 0 #2 May 8, 2003 You have the right gear so far. Tony suits has a downloadable software.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.
dgskydive 0 #3 May 8, 2003 All of those items are very good. I have never seen the goggles so I'm sure about those. BUt every thing else is top notch! The only thing you may want to consider on the Mind warp is that if you start doing heavy RW (4-way) or something like that . You may get kicked in the face, and a full face would do you better in that situation. The only reason I can think of to wait on some of the items is if you are tight for cash. The money you 200 + dollars you spend on the Pro Track could go towards a canopy or a Cypres. If this is your first post you owe beer. No free rides on Dropzone! skybytch 273 #4 May 8, 2003 Good choices! Quote Is there any reason I should consider a different Brain Bucket if I am primarily interested in RW? I use an open face ("freefly") helmet for all my jumps, RW or freefly. I like the wind in my face, and with an open face helmet I can also hear (and give) the exit count. Quote Any reasons that a new jumper should wait a while before making these purchases or other things that I should consider first? Nope. I'd order the jumpsuit right away; takes awhile to get those in. Most major gear dealers will have most of the rest of the stuff in stock - so you might even be able to jump it before you're off student status. TequilaGirl 0 #5 May 8, 2003 If you are planning on doing mostly RW I would get a full face.....nose bleeds suck in freefall......
AggieDave 6 #6 May 8, 2003 That's a very good point! There are still some folks that I know (who do quite a bit of RW) who prefer an open faced helmet (understanding the risks of a broken nose, etc).--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." VectorBoy 0 #7 May 9, 2003 I have both a bonehead mindwarp and an oxygen. I mostly freefly but got a smoken deal on a battered used a3 that I use for cold weather jumps. I can hear and yell in the a3 as good as the mindwarp. Down side to the full face is that if you like to clear your ears under canopy you have to open the lens visor, unless of course you go visorless with goggles for nose and jaw protection. But for cold weather wing suit flights of more than 100 seconds you can't beat it. Some full face models tend to fly off heads during deployment, so mind which brand you buy. A great many people that fly RW use brain bucket or frap hats. Competetive 4-way you may really want full face coverage. Glen
