ltdiver 3 #5 December 15, 2005 Quotei m looking for a digital camera. i already have a camcorder Okay....Guess I got fooled by the title of your thread. "digital camcorder with remote plug. Among us skydivers, there are two main camps in the digital camera department. Some swear by Canon. Others by Nikon. Both make great digital SLR's. Both can be used successfully for skydiving. ALL are SLR's. I don't know of any 'point and shoot' digital cameras that are used for our sport. I chose to stay with Canon for 2 reasons in the beginning. 1) I already had lenses from my 35mm Canon days that would transfer over to the digital realm (minus the 1.6 conversion factor), and 2) there were already alot of cameraflyers who had tested the cameras in the air and found they had great results. So, I stayed with Canon. I've had no complaints with my Canon 300D, other than it doesn't flush the buffer fast enough for a series of swoop shots. In the air it behaves just fantastic. :^) There are others who swear by Nikon. I'll let them tell their story. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
cj1150gs 0 #6 December 15, 2005 Check this thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1941664;search_string=ricoh;#1941664 That Ricoh accepts an optional cable remote. You can then modify the remote to operate it with a blow, tongue or bite switch. Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com

Minimal acceptance for my line of skydiving work is a 20mm. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
cj1150gs 0 #8 December 15, 2005 QuoteYeah, but what size is the lens? Minimal acceptance for my line of skydiving work is a 20mm. ltdiver The lens is 28 mm (equiv.35mm). There's an wide angle adapter lens (don't know the conv. factor). Another aspect to consider is frame rate. I have no idea of how many fps this Ricoh makes ... but for someone not willing to go SLR it seems one of the few possibilities. StefB 0 #9 December 16, 2005 fps... this is the real problem with these simple digicams and the big advantage of the DSLRs. I havn't measured the time between two shots with the Ricoh Caplio GX8, but i estimate some seconds. This depends from image resolution, image compression, exposure time, storage media... when it is of interest, i'll write more. Stefan
