Rebel xt VS D20

Recommended Posts

I'm going to get a new digital next month, Im going to get either the cannon rebel XT or the D20. Has anybody done a side by side compairson of the two cameras? If you had to choose one over the other which would you pick. Thanks for your thoughts and opinions.

The XT is a 8 MP camera. The D20 is a 8.2 MP camera. You can't hardly tell the difference in the two's photos. The D20 is quite a bit heavier. The XT is 3 fps and the D20 is 4 fps. 3 fps is more than enough. I typically get between 75-100 photos per tandem video out of a cessna. The XT is about $500 cheaper. For a skydiving application I would go with the XT. My 2¢.

Read this side by side review for the cameras you are looking for.

Canon 20D- 5 fps up to 23 JPEG images
Canon XT- 2.8 fps up to 14 JPEG images

Click on the picture of the camera its self for a fantastic indebth review of each one. The 20D is a more beefier camera. It shoots faster for longer. It is also made of metal and not plastic. There is always a compromise.....

I own and jump both, usually at the same time.

Unless your going to need to use the higher frames per second on a regular basis, get the rebel xt.

Whilst it shoots less fps, it is lighter, clears its buffer faster, takes an easily sourceable remote, and is basically the "sony pc video" of skydiving dslr's.

Why (and how) do you operate two still cameras at once?

I have a digital camera and a 35 mm camera, I sometimes jump them both together. I do so because due to cycling times sometimes my 35mm will get a shot that my digital doesn't and visa versa. I fly my digital mounted vertically and my 35mm mounted horizontally. I have two pulgs which are controlled by one bite switch. If Im only flying one camera I just tape the other plug down so its not blowing in the wind. Its interesting to compair the prespective of the two cameras

With the 20D you are paying more for a ton of great additional features that are totally worth the money (in my opinion) unless you are using the camera for freefall. Then you paid more for a bigger, heavier camera that does the same thing.
