wildcard451 0 #1 December 2, 2005 Ok, I searched and found some threads from 2004 on the issue, but couldn't really find the real world results I was looking for, so I figured I would ask again. I am about to mount my Nikon D70 on an BH optik and I need to get the remote release port installed as I am not to thrilled about going with the IR solution. Who else out here has actually had this done? I was reading one thread the said there is a size difference between the conceptus plugs and the port that Harbortronics puts in, although both Conceptus' and Harbortronics' wesites say that they use a 2.5mm standard port. http://conceptusinc.com/tongueswitch.htm http://www.harbortronics.com/D70_Mod.pdf Looking for opinions. I am ordering the helmet tomorrow and shortly thereafter the rest of the materials need to built it all. Hopefully you all can shed some insight onto the D70 problem. And no, selling this one and geting a D70s is not an option.
newshooter12 0 #2 December 2, 2005 FWIK the difference in some of the conceptus switches that i'm aware of is whether the switch is wired mono or stereo. stereo allows the camera to focus and meter each time you click the switch. mono keeps the thing focusing, but with a nikon you can choose between constant and single focus anyway so stereo switches seem to be the way to go. IMHO. is this what you meant? matt
ffejdraga 0 #3 December 4, 2005 Hey Brandon, I have the mod from Harbortronics for my D70, and it is solid. I had a problem once witha faulty Conceptus switch. Ed over there sent me a new switch, and since that time, I havent missed a shot with it in over a thousand still jumps. The mod is awesome, because a Conceptus switch will plug right into it. I had my camera back in about a week I think, Harbortronics is great, talk with Mark if you have any more questions. I love it, would do it again if I had to... but will be getting a d200 sometime when i can. jeff D-16906 btw, the switch from cenceptus that works well has three conductors on it...making it stereo, I guess? wildcard451 0 #4 December 5, 2005 Jeff, thanks. that's the exact reply I was looking for. Will be sending mine out soon. What lens are you shooting with primarily?
ffejdraga 0 #5 December 6, 2005 I have been using the 16mm full frame Nikkor lens. It was $850 when I bough a few years ago. THIS ONE Looks like it is $100 cheaper now. It makes it 24mm, catches a lot in the background, although I did like the full frame fisheye, and miss that now. One day I will get the 10.5mm and be all good again. I also have a 20mm that I used for bigger RW stuff. If you take a look back at many of the 2004 Parachutists, you can see my pics in there, and most of them were with the d70 16mm combo. Actually, also the FEB 2005 issue has a couple of my pics in it. It is a sweet camera, and I love it. But I am a diehard Nikon fan.... jeff D-16906
