Newbie 0 #1 November 20, 2005 Guys i want to get a digital SLR for my wife, as she wants to start to get into photography, but she is not a skydiver. However, there will always be the possibility i could nab it for the odd weekend for jumping here and there and take it with me, right? Seriously, it will specifically be for her, for non jumping purposes, but i don't think you can get anything decent for under $400 right? I would prefer build quality over masses of features that she would never probably use anyway. We both have always used compact digital cameras but i would like to get her this as a gift to foster a growing interest she has in stills photography. If anyone has any suggestions or could point out a few sites i could check, i would really appreciate it. Many thanks. MB38 0 #2 November 21, 2005 www.dpreview.com You should check this site out for reviews and a lot of fantastic information. For $400, you probably won't end up with a [good] DSLR unless you go [very] used.I really don't know what I'm talking about.
indyz 1 #3 November 21, 2005 For $400, you are going to be forced to buy used. With lens you are probably looking at a used original Canon Digital Rebel, Nikon D70, or (longshot) a well-used Canon 10D. Without a lens, you might be able to find a used Canon Digital Rebel XT or a used Nikon D50. You can get a useable lens, new, for a digital SLR for about $100 (nothing spectacular, but it works).
