slow exposures and skydiving photos..

Recommended Posts

Something I tried but didn't get results (because my flash didn't work) is do a longish exposure with a flash....the first shutter curtain opens, flash goes off...skydivers continue turning/moving leaving a blurred image with a sharp image from the flash.

The blurry images were kind of interesting... blurry silhouettes against the evening sky....late sunset load.

It has potential for some great images....imo.

I've done things like move the camera around during the exposure...like the "throw" shots you linked to...I also liked doing multi-exposures moving the camera and sometimes throwing the image out of focus on one shot. Can you do these sorts of things on digital cameras or would you just do it on your computer? I did all these things on film and part of the fun was waiting for the slides to come back and see what I'd gotten.

gotta ask, WTF is a throw camera?

well for this specific photogroup the creator is defining a 'camera throw' as a shot were you do not have direct control of the camera as the exposure is made.. the rules are kind of fuzzy but the easiest way to create it is set a slow exposure in a darkened room with a solo light source and fire as you toss your camera in the air..

if you check the forum group for that site you'll see there has been some discussion/disagreement as to what counted..

since we throw ourselves WITH our cameras skydiving doesnt quite count but i thought there might be some interesting night jump 'accidents' at least with the same kinds of effects..
