MB38 0 #1 August 16, 2005 I'm looking to buy a helmet that either has a camera platform built in or has the capability to add a platform down the line. I'm still a student right now, so the helmet will simply be for protection for several hundred more jumps. Thus, I've been attracted to the Bonehead Mindwarp. It's just a good 'ol fashioned helmet that can have a camera platform added down the line. The Optik would be a more camera-happy option right off the bat and would certainly make life easier as I add more than one camera. Then there's the most likely option: "buy a $40 ProTec and get a camera helmet in a few years". The only thing stopping me from going that route is the lack of an audible pocket. I know there are dozens of other brands out there and everybody has their favorite... that's what I'd like to hear about. Searches galore haven't gotten me very far. So, advice?I really don't know what I'm talking about.
ltdiver 3 #2 August 17, 2005 The most protection you'll get from a helmet is from a Protec. More foam to compress in deceleration. You can add a 'pocket' for an audible by, as one skydiver suggested years ago, a baby sock to the inside ear hole. You can wire it down there and easily extract the audible as needed. If you're looking for something a bit more sylish, a Bonehead helmet is the one I'd recommend. You can look in the classifieds if you want to bargain with someone. If you'd like new, Bonehead is fantastic with customer service. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
diablopilot 2 #3 August 17, 2005 Agreed. Bonehead is the way to go and either the Mindwarp or Optik would suit you well. The customer service is outstanding.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
MB38 0 #4 August 17, 2005 Now, knowing that I'm going to be a camera flyer when the time comes... do you think it's worth throwing up a few extra bones and grabbing the Optik right off the bat? I'm not sure how secure the Mindwarp is with a camera attached... maybe somebody could chime in on that one.I really don't know what I'm talking about. Superfletch 1 #6 August 17, 2005 Just buy a helmet that you like and when the time comes get a separate camera helmet at that time. By then there might be a much better one on the market anyhow. Mindwarps are good helmets and I've heard a lot of people like the Velocity also. Anyway, you'll probably change your mind a hundred times before you actually need one. NSEMN8R 0 #7 August 17, 2005 Maybe just get a protec for now and buy some of those bonebonds. Then when you're ready and you know what you want you can get a sweet deal on it.

That and when it comes time to add a camera to your helmet you will have realized that it would be nice to have one that has no camera.~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me.
