Bite Switch

Recommended Posts

I have a dig. rebel and just this weekend I started having problems with the bite switch for it. Every time i plug it in the camera continuiously fires and does not stop. I have tried turnning it off and even removing the battery. I think i may have broke the bit switch and know it is pressed all the time. I have the bite switch that has the red center.

$35 will get you a new one.

I've jumped with a bite switch since day one ( of video jumping) I still use the same switch. at least 1200 pictures from it.

I know many people complian about biting through it and it is VERY possible but I dont think its inevitable.

you switch def. sounds shorted I wouldjust get a new one ( unless you wanna try the tongue switch)

you need a wire harness with 3 separate wires.

then you need a STEREO MALE 2.5MM connector.
and a solder gun.

go to Radio shack(my local doesn't sell them I had to go online)

as far as the bite switch I haven't found anything that would work without getting wet and shorting out. but you can build a Tongue switch (or a thiumb switch- run it out of your helmet into your sleeve. but I would sugesst making a quick disconnect that attaches just insdie of you helemt then run a 2nd wire from your cam and to the back of your helmet.)

I haven't been able to find anything that would work for a BITE switch that is small enough to fit in your mouth.

EDIT To ADD:
I typed all that by memory (haven't build one in about 1.5 months) so If I got somethig worng PLEASE correct me.

then again I only looked at Radio shack...they weren't the best.
and online...I didnt search hard enough for it. but I KNOW its out there.

How did you make it? Can you tell me what parts I need and where I might find them for a rebel xt?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Ok, here it goes. First of all, all the tools the above post said, plus a glue gun is nice. The camera jack is a stereo plug that fits the camera (not all will work, this one has 3 separate connections, look closely at the pic), I'm sure the ones with just 2 connections will trigger the fire on the camera as soon as it's plugged in and on...(found out the hard way on this one). I highly recommend that you take your camera with you to radio shack (or where ever), put the jack in your camera and turn that camera on. If the camera starts shooting, then that jack will not work...make sense? Got the switch from radio shack, but don't know the part #, but one of the pics shows the size and how it looks. They are under 5 bucks. It WILL have 3 prongs, it's black, and the lever is thin stainless. I broke off about 1/8" of the end of stainless lever, it was a little sharp, and sticks out a little far. Solder the wires to the switch so that when you depress the switch, the camera will focus and fire, or just fire in manuel focus. You will only use 2 of the prongs on the switch, I think the farthest one from the hinge of the switch is useless for this application. On my switch, I cut off part of a finger on a letex glove and hot glued it to the switch. The glue gives a good biting surface, and sorta molds to you teeth, and the glove keeps the slobber outa the switch. The rubber dries up after a while, and you need to redo it, or just not use it, but the switch will start to stick. Also used the glue gun on the stereo jack for inulation, better than a wad of electrical tape. But this has been working for me. I also found that you need to keep your mouth shut unless you don't mind drool on your lens. Just bite on it and push with your tongue, it's pretty damn easy to make, and friggin CHEAP!!!

Hope that helps.
my pics & stuff!
