dragon2 2 #1 July 11, 2005 Yesterday I got some mac dv files I need to edit, how do I convert those to something my pc can handle? The files have no extension, i tried .dv .avi .mov .qt to no avail. Premiere and WinMedia Player have no clue. Seems these files are not coded at all so a codec wouldn't work, or would it? Some help please! ciel bleu, Saskia
freeflydrew 0 #2 July 11, 2005 Download Quicktime 6.5 for Windows. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download You can also download the beta version of Quicktime 7 from the same page I don't think that you can actually use raw mac dv files on a windows machine... Thats it... (You can't just change the extension of the file and expect it to actually change the format, you have to actually save it as something different... Also, the mac hides extensions of files by default, so if you click the file and choose File--> Get info, it will show you what type of file it is and also let you make the extension visible) -drew
dragon2 2 #3 July 11, 2005 I have quicktime 6.5 already. Well by changing the extension I realize you don't change the format, but this trick has worked for me in the past for some other file formats. I read about some codecs on the 'net that may do the trick (sort of) but they're not free, unfortunately. Anyone has any other ideas? ciel bleu, Saskia
freeflydrew 0 #4 July 11, 2005 they need to go back onto the mac, into imovie, or final cut, exported as full quality dv, then imported into which ever windows app you're using...
eUrNiCc 0 #5 July 12, 2005 Hahaha... I'm having the same issues converting footage that was captured as .avi into .dv so that I can edit them in Final Cut Pro... I've found that Cleaner 6 (mac only as far as i'm aware) is pretty good at converting between lots and lots of different formats. Best of luck though... i feel your pain.Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

mccordia 74 #8 July 13, 2005 Converting always sucks.. With Premiere Pro it's luckely become easyer to convert NTSC footage to PAL en vice-versa (due to added frame-blending) but before that time that used to be after-effects hell But still, with AfterEffects you get nicer results...so next time I get NTSC footage (Deuce..next time use a PAL camera when you come to a EU boogie) I'll probably take the slow and painfull route again... But glad to hear it worked saskia....I can't wait to see your edit (I gues it's the same material that hans used? Or any cool extra stuff we missed?)JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
