Advice needed - does my FF2 look like yours?

Recommended Posts

Guys i just took delivery of my FF2 this week and man, it's a wonderful piece of kit.

I was wondering if i could show you guys my set up and get some advice, ideally from other FF2 owners.

A few points:

1 - Do you guys keep the strap on the camera, and if so, is it ideally placed in the hole through the liner? (see "under liner" pic)

2 - How close is the opening hole to the side of your camera lens? As you can see, im using one of the royal lenses here, and now that im set up, the enclosure hole seems almost perfect (see "front" pic). If anyone has a royal lens, is your set up similar to mine? Also, while we are it, take a look at the "side profile" and "top profile" pics. I was under the impression that mounting, even with a royal lens, would have a small amount of protrusion, but i actually have a lens totally flush with the opening hole on the camera enclosure.

3 - Even with the screw on the attachment plate tightened to the camera, i still get a millimetre or so of movement even when i can't screw the screw into the camera anymore (the camera front can be raised by a tiny degree - see "attachment plate" pics 1 and 2 to see if you can see what i mean - out of focus slightly there but you can see the front can tip up slightly).

Edited to add - for some reason, if i click the attachment plate pics, it asks if i want to save them, and the only way i can see them is if i save them to my comp, so try that if you are getting the open/save pop up.

I figure there should be no play here, but, saying that, when i close the lid, the foam on the inside of the flap presses the camera in place, and even with poking it about and shaking, i seem to get zero movement. Again, do you guys have any play in your camera once screwed to the attachment plate? I would be interested to find out.

Thanks guys, appreciate the help.:)

Isn't it...I love mine as well.

I cut my strap off just cause I'll never need it...it looks good how you have it routed, as long as it's not putting too much bulk under the padding.

You can change the angle your camera is shooting a bit...at first mine was just like yours but I wanted it to shoot a little more downward, and in doing so I now have about a half a cm of lens extending (still no chance of snagging though) in front of the box.

The socket in the camera is probably not deep enough for the screw. You can get a pretty easy fix for this by getting a small washer on the underside of the thumb screw.

Good to hear you like your FF2...I like mine so much I started selling them and everyone who has gotten one has been super happy with it.
Hope this helps...

1) Cut the strap......if you are using your cam as a skydiving camcorder you wont miss it.....if you do mis s it...it just needs to be sewed back on again.....not particularly difficult !

2) I have a PC109 and Royal lens.....my lens is about as close to the lens hole on the side mount as it can be without touching it.....perfect !
It does not protrude at all....and even with the 0.3 lens I dont see any of my helmet in the shot....again...perfect.
Your lens looks perfectly flush.....provided your cover is not 'scratching' the lens when opened/closed....it looks great

3) I had the exact same concerns as you and was advised to jump it.....even with a 'little' play ( mainly due to 'flex' on the Lbracket.....I have never had a problem with movement/camera shake....my advice...screw it to the secure L bracket and forget about it....go jump it....address any problems you have after that.

The lens doesn't get touched now although it was a little before hand, but i tightened up the angle of the attachment plate and it seems good now.

I'll go jump it and see how it works out, i think your advice about just getting it into the air is the best thing to really see how she flies:)

---- I kept my strap, routed it through the hole, took off the 'velcro pad thingy'. (too poor to buy ANOTHER video camera for other video worthy stuff, although video of peoples looks while wearing a camera through St. Peter's would be priceless)

2 - How close is the opening hole to the side of your camera lens?
---- I've got a .5 royal lens, it's actually inside (flush mounting made the aimpoint too high). It works great slightly inside, helmet does not get in the way of video.

3 - Even with the screw on the attachment plate tightened to the camera,
---- Mine has a different type of screw, no problems...but I can't tell you what type--- mine looks like a giant 'normal' flathead screw, I can't hand-tighten/loosen mine.
