teamhypoxia 0 #1 June 23, 2005 anyone familiar with importing .avi files into Premier I'm having trouble with the audio everything I've read says that the audio should be conformed when imported but my audio tracks on the timeline are flat. any exporting i've done has been silent if i play the sequence in the project window (itty bitty little window) i get audio, but the monitor window will not play audio any ideas/suggestions ? btw using premier pro 1.5 thanks
ChangoLanzao 0 #2 June 23, 2005 What are the properties of the .avi file? Right-clicky the tiny preview window in the Project frame and click Properties. Are you by any chance using an Nvidia graphics card and have NVDVD software installed on the system? *
teamhypoxia 0 #3 June 23, 2005 unfortunately the project and files are at home and i'm at work now. i remember the audio properties of the .avi file are 48khz compressed if thats what you're asking. negative on the nvidia stuff
ChangoLanzao 0 #4 June 23, 2005 You might be able to extract the audio as a WAV file (uncompressed) using VirtualDub and then import that into Premiere and overlay it onto the sound track. *
br0k3n 0 #5 June 24, 2005 when you import a video or audio file PrePro will automatically conform it. Im at work at the moment so dont have PP in front of me, but I will try and remember. What you need to do is change the project playback settings. By default, Adobe Premiere Pro previews audio through the DV device to external speakers only. If you change the audio playback to Play Audio on Audio Hardware, Adobe Premiere Pro plays audio through the computer's hardware and speakers. To update the playback settings to play audio on audio hardware: 1. Choose Project > Project Settings> General. 2. Click Playback Settings. 3. Choose Play Audio on Audio Hardware. 4. Click OK to close the Project Settings dialog box.----------------------------------------------------------- --+ There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.. --+
teamhypoxia 0 #6 June 24, 2005 Quote1. Choose Project > Project Settings> General. 2. Click Playback Settings. 3. Choose Play Audio on Audio Hardware. 4. Click OK to close the Project Settings dialog box. actually, I had done that. the waveform for the audio is simply flat. In fact, when I exported the project as an .m2v and a .wav it made a giant, silent .wav file anyway, I tried the previous suggestion of ripping the audio from the .avi using virtualdub (actually used virtualdubmod) and that seems to have worked. at least I now have a viable audio file in my timeline. premier is exporting to dvd now so we'll see. what a collosal pain in the ass though! ripping the audio made a file that wasn't quite identical in duration to the video so it took a little tweaking to sync them back up. I wish I knew if I was buggering a setting in premier or something. I've never had any trouble capturing audio from my dv tapes at all, just this .avi
br0k3n 0 #7 June 24, 2005 it is definitely something to do with premier, as i have had the same problem in the past. I just cant remember what caused it, or better still how i fixed it... now let me think............----------------------------------------------------------- --+ There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.. --+
teamhypoxia 0 #8 June 24, 2005 well this is laughable....... so i take the files into work this morning on a portable hard drive and try to import them there. no such luck. they won't import at all (the avis). says "unsupported compression". I'm thinking it can't be a codec problem because the comp will play them with media player...... a suggestion on an online forum says "rename the .avi to .mpg, so I do that and try inporting again. this time it imports it but doesn't recognize it as a video file, just imports the audio. so now I have what I was originally after, a workable audio track, but no video. this crap is giving me a headache
