Skymonkey13 0 #1 June 3, 2005 What thickness would you suggest for a aluminum mount for a still camera only?
linestretch 0 #2 June 3, 2005 depends if the mount is just flat, or like a fin so you can do vert. If it's flat, .06 or .05 is just fine. But if your are making it so it's vert, probably .09 or .100. That should be rigid enough.my pics & stuff!
Skymonkey13 0 #3 June 3, 2005 This is for horizontal pics, and the [piece of aluminum i have is 1/8 inch thick. Will that be Ok?
linestretch 0 #4 June 3, 2005 is the 1/8" bracket laying flat on top of the helmet? If so, that's an over kill, you could go with 1/2 the thickness. Mine's flat against the top of the helmet, and bolted through it.my pics & stuff!
AggieDave 6 #5 June 3, 2005 If you're using it as any sort of bracket that will have to support weight out away from the helmet just using the metal's strength you'll want to bend the edges to give it a frame, a very solid platform. To bend the piece properly after bending the supports in the piece, you're going to have to either use a shrinker or make a couple of cuts on the supports. After you cut you'll either have to pop a couple of rivets in it on the support bends or you'll have to do some quick welding. Not a big deal really, as long as you plan what you're doing and make it to plan.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
