lurch 0 #1 April 26, 2003 I'm wondering has anyone ever tried to make a variable-size canopy? Something with like a second set of brakes which when pulled, collapses your last two or four cells and makes a faster 7-cell or 5-cell out of it? Maybe have the center 5 cells be airlocked and the rest not? What kind of sick flight characteristics could you get out of something like that? Dive with it in "fast" mode and snap out your "extra" cells for psycho glide time? I'm guessing someone's already thought of this and probably developed/tested/rejected the notion, but I AM curious.Live and learn... or die, and teach by example. CrazyIvan 0 #2 April 26, 2003 What about DISPOSABLE canopies?, you'll save lots of packing time. __________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.
Faber 0 #3 April 26, 2003 did you ever see world largest canopi(1500sqft i think)it were opend by explosive bolts(dont know the exact name)... Stay safe Stefan Faber
brabzzz 0 #4 April 26, 2003 Not exactly what you meant, but Paratec make a conopy (Quadra?) that is shipped with two line-sets, slow ones installed so when you get bored after x jumps you put the fast ones on (i think they just point the canopy at the ground a bit more). They also have a notably smallish pack volume. From what I hear, the escape pod they are bulding for the international space station has a ram-air canopy that is over 100,000 square foot. -Blind"If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it." riggerrob 643 #6 April 27, 2003 This concept has come up before but no one has figured out how to make it change configuration symmetrically.

Casch 0 #8 April 27, 2003 Quote 7500 square feet... I wonder what the pack volume is on one of those? I wonder if I could fit it in one of my DZ's student rigs for a demo?
