Squeak 17 #1 April 26, 2003 I have a J1 C4 container and was wondering if Dixie (my local rigger) would be able to make the MLW longer to suit my 18" measurement? Alternatively if it cant be, can hip rings be added to a non-ringed harness???You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing? trigger 0 #2 April 26, 2003 Don't if this is relevent to your question, but a friend of mine had his complete harness replaced by Sunpath follow a mishap which resulted in the original harness becoming damaged. As he was replacing his harness/container system, the new harness was made to his girlfriends measurements. riggerrob 643 #4 April 26, 2003 If it is a simple harness, re-sizing it is a simple job that costs about US$100. If it has rings, then the price goes up. The manufacturer can usually do harness re-sizes quicker and neater than your local master rigger.
cuchulinn 0 #5 April 28, 2003 I just had a harness cut down from a C20 to a C17. When I sent it to Sunpath for the adjustment (120.00 I believe they charged) I also asked them about installing hip rings. They sent me a quote back (within a day of receiving my rig I must add) and said the addition of hip rings would be about 650.00 due to there is not much left of the old harness to use when installing hip rings, the 650.00 bacially covered the cost of a new harness assy, using your existing hardware. They did not recommend it due to the cost, but would do it if I felt the need to dish out 650 for an entire harness. Sunpath will also charge a manitory 15.00 for a rig inspeaction they do with every rig you send them for any reason. They also recommended I add a bridal cover for 35.00, which I did. So the entire cost, less shipping was 120.00 for the harness cutdown, 15.00 for the inspection and 35 for the bridal cover. Arrived on my doorstep in perfect condition the day it was promised. Squeak 17 #6 April 30, 2003 at a conversion rate of $0.60 cents to the US$ that would cost me $283.00 before shipping charges, OUCHWould a compettant Rigger be able to do this??? PhreeZone 20 #7 April 30, 2003 IT has to be done by a Master rigger. A regular rigger can not do this work, and it takes a industrial sewing machine to be able to handle the thread thats needed to do the stitching. Its well beyond the ability of a rigger and unless the master rigger has a good loft, most will just tell you to send it to the factory.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
wmw999 2,583 #8 April 30, 2003 Note that Squeak is in Australia -- there must be an Australian equivalent of master rigger. Basically it would be someone who is able legally to do harness work. An added bonus is when they have the experience and proper equipment to do so. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
mikkey 0 #9 April 30, 2003 Squeak, You might want to have a chat to Parachute Australia. They manufacture rigs, so they have the machinery and expertise to do these type of changes. Alternatively, contact the APF and ask for a list of master riggers who can do this type of work.--------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull.
