andyflylife 0 #1 May 10, 2005 Sorry if this topic has been raised before but i couldn't find it in a search. I am looking to purchase a vid camera (pc style) for my first camera helmet. There seems to be a huge range of equipment available from £200 upwards, and although Sonys are much cheaper to buy than they used to be i'm just interested what the advantages are over buying other brands. (eg JVC,Panasonic....etc) Most camera flying seems to done using Sony. Is it just a 'brand thing' or are they the best one for the job. Opinions and advice are much appreciated. Canuck 0 #2 May 10, 2005 It has a lot to do with the fact that Sony cameras have proven to last 100s and 1000s of jumps, where other brands often don't. Not to say that they can't, there are for sure people jumping JVCs, etc. with good results. Also, most Sony cameras have a LANC port used for Cam-Eye indicators. Most other brands don't have them. jceman 1 #4 May 10, 2005 QuoteSorry if this topic has been raised before but i couldn't find it in a search. Not to be a smart arse, but I think you didn't search very well. I simply input "why Sony" into the search for this forum only, and this is what I got. I thnk you'll find all you need to know and more there. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

sfc 1 #7 May 12, 2005 what is your budget? do you want to sell your video? (how much do you care about quality) do you want side or top mount? How much weight do you want to carry on your head? These things will help to figure out which model to buy.

andyflylife 0 #9 May 12, 2005 I'd love to work in the sport through camera flying. My intention is to learn right from my first camera jump to 'fly the camera'. Will probably practice outside video on freefly/other fun jumps. (thanks for all the feedback!) "swooper 24/7, 365!" damion75 0 #10 May 25, 2005 Quote These prices where on www.jessops.com/ Dude, I'm sure you wouldn't... but for the love of god don't buy from Jessops - they are about the most expensive place out there! If you can get to London then Tottenham Court Road or Edgeware, otherwise hunt through the net... you will save £00s!*************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus. 78RATS 0 #11 May 27, 2005 JVC's I have seen don't allow firewiring. Can't have a firewire party if your camera won't do it. Rat for Life - Fly till I die When them stupid ass bitches ask why
