andy2 0 #1 April 25, 2003 I read the thread on dyeing jumpsuits. Someone maybe hinted at the grippers taking dye better than the actual suit. Does anyone have any experience dyeing the grippers on their suit? If so, how did you do it? Any help is appreciated. Oh, I'll be dyeing the grippers from sage green to black, if that helps. Thanks! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
sdctlc 0 #2 April 25, 2003 You might be better off sewing a "cover" of the desired color on the grip compared to the trouble of dyeing just the grippers. I had a good sized tear in a grip from a DC3 exit a awhile back and was having trouble trying to figure how to easily fix it. It was in a funky place on the grip and I could not sew it easily. Ended up taking some fabric cut a little widder then the diameter of the grip and sewed it with the two edges of the "cover" at the seam with the suit. Ended up with a double stich so it was very secure and did not even have to do anything with the seam on the suit. Had to be careful about not letting the "cover" get loose around the grip. Hope that description makes sense. The one I did was only part of the grip to cover the tear but you should be able to match the length of the grip with the same basic fix. Hope it at least gives you some ideas! Scott C."He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
Jessica 0 #3 April 25, 2003 Ooh, I'm the one who dyed my jumpsuit, and I'm thinking you'd have a hell of a time doing just the grippers. In fact, you'd probably end up with nasty splotches of black dye in places you didn't want them. The above poster is right; you'd do better to just have the grippers replaced. sdctlc 0 #4 April 25, 2003 My suggestion was not for a replacement of the grips but a easy fix to cover the unwanted color with a desired color. Depending on your sewing skills, your access to a sewing machine or a rigger or seamstress that would be willing to do this, it might be just as easy to go to the manufacturer. Personally I would probably try to cover it, but I like tinkering. A quick phone call to get some options is not a bad idea. I am sure the ingenious population here on dropzone.com will have some other ideas as well Good Luck "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
