Kuper 0 #1 May 2, 2005 hi all, after dreaming about 20D for few month, i think i'll go for the REBEL XT (350D), and that's just because i heard Canon put some good improvments in it. the problem is, that the old Drebel seems to do problems in the air (error 99 for example) and because of that - to miss the jump. last weekend we missed a pic of a new record because of that error... 1. and good/ bad thoughts of you guys about those 2 cameras? 2. does someone know what makes these errors like the 99 on the Rebel? how can we prevent them? i heard it something with the lense, but i'm not sure, and also the lens in weekend was Canon's too... thanks and blues! dragon2 2 #2 May 2, 2005 Hi Ori, Do a search on this forum about the error 99 thing, it's been discussed here a number of times before. Don't know much about the 350D. If you want a camera without error 99 wait a bit for the Nikon D70s ciel bleu, Saskia

Chivo 0 #5 May 3, 2005 QuoteError 99 = We have no idea what this error is, tough luck. (free translation ) Actually, Error 99 means there's a defective piece of hardware. Specifically, it refers to the person holding the camera. ~Chivo

Kuper 0 #7 May 4, 2005 did anyone have it on 350D (Rebel XT)?http://www.orikuper.printroom.com
mr2mk1g 10 #8 May 4, 2005 Error 99 on the 300D is when you are using an incompatible lens. Most commonly an older Sigma. The camera is not able to make it have the aperture setting it wants to use. I am pretty sure the same problem would exist with the 350d. If this is the problem you can have your lens re-chipped by Sigma to work with the digital camera. If it's not the lens then I'm out of ideas.
Kuper 0 #9 May 4, 2005 it's not the lens nor something else. yet. the problem is that i want to by the 350, but afraid of errors like that, and want to know about them before i buy - if at all...http://www.orikuper.printroom.com
dragon2 2 #10 May 4, 2005 Error 99 can be a lot of things, not only problems with non-Canon lenses. During the FS World Record 2004 in Thailand, Bruno had error 99 with his and my 300D, with a Canon lens, there's a thread on it on this forum somewhere.Another cameraman i know had error 99 on his 10D during the Dutch Record jumps... Maybe the camera doesn't like Hercs?!? LOL Don't know if enough people have jumped the 350D yet to know if it has the same problem. The 10D didn't seem to have the problem at first, then it showed up. ciel bleu, Saskia
Kuper 0 #11 May 4, 2005 it looks like the 300D really doesn't like records... here too. thanx Saskia. How r everybody at Teauge? still see from the sky the little spots of all the sheeps and cows on the ground?http://www.orikuper.printroom.com
vdschoor 0 #12 May 4, 2005 Saskia, I know you're a Nikon lady.. but.. I'd like to comment on the Canon cameras. What I've found for the digital cameras is that they are VERY sensitive on the wiring, I've had several people complain that the remote wouldn't work properly, it would shut off the camera AND give Error 99 once in a while. I found specially with the Digital Rebel is that the standard Conceptus tongue switch works like a charm, as long as you have the one with the stereo plug. Both the Digital Rebel and the Rebel XT are awesome cameras. Iwan
dragon2 2 #13 May 4, 2005 Most people here have the standard conceptus plugs, usually stereo, and definately stereo for the 300D. For Bruno the solution was wrapping the camera in plastic, for the other camera man a firmware upgrade seemed to fix at least the frequency of the error (this 10D was even giving error 99 on the ground, without the remote). Bruno bought another camera (I think a D20). Whatever, I got rid of my 300D, but not because of the error 99 thing (I never experienced it myself only Bruno did with my camera). My D70 has other problems, related to the wiring of the infrared remote. I want a D70s Or a D20.... Me? I'm not picky The 350D looks and feels nice though. But I'd wait untill someone else tries it first. ciel bleu, Saskia
vdschoor 0 #14 May 4, 2005 Quote The 350D looks and feels nice though. But I'd wait untill someone else tries it first. yeah wait until someone "in your neck of the woods" tries it I just upgraded to the 20D, and I am LOVING that camera.. The reason I didnt go with the 350D (or Digital Rebel XT here) is because of the grip, it is not very comfortable to hold for ground stuff (landings and other kinds of photography) so I went for the 20D instead.. Two people at my home DZ are already jumping the XT (350D) and they are loving it.. Iwan

rocketfeuille 0 #16 May 4, 2005 I used to be strictly Canon when I was working with film, but when I made the switch to digital, I found Nikon more appealing. I love the D70 and hated having to use a friend's digital rebel for a project. If you can wait, grab the D70s when it comes to market. The new remote cinches it as the better camera.
