Line types

or it just affects deployment and durability?

Different types of line cause different amounts of drag. Dacron (thick line) produces a good bit more drag than Spectra (smaller diameter line), and Spectra produces more drag than HMA (really thin lines).

So flight performance of the canopy is affected by how much drag its lines are creating during flight.

Experience level doesn't really have much to do with it. And, for most jumpers, you're really only going to see marginal changes in performance based on line type.

If you're a super high-speed swoop God, it's going to make a difference, but for most people line type is a bigger issue with pack volume than with performance.

IMO your jump experience level, is not so much the factor, instead the gear awareness you have is more important. The argument can be made that some line types should be monitored more closely, however I believe you should take that level of interest in inspecting and maintaining no matter what gear you select.

You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
