Digital Rebel and Tandems

Recommended Posts

I've just been using the kit lens and it works fine. You can see some stuff here:

It certainly is not as wide as some like, but at 18mm it's as close as most of our tandem pilots like us photographers to fly anyway! Technically it works fine, it's sharp enough and seems pretty good edge to edge. In my humble opinion it's good enough.

I've used both the kit (18 to 55) lens and the Sigma 15 for tandems

While the 18 to 55 worked well, the Sigma for me is much better especially if using a Sony .6 or equivalent wide angle lens on your video.

For one thing you don't have to tape up the Sigma or worry about accidently bumping the zoom like on the zoom lenses.

I've used these lenses with the DR:

- 12/5.6 FE, cannot remember what sort.
- Sigma 12-24/4.5-5.6 - Heavy, expensive, not so good under F8
- Zenitar 16/2.8 FE - nice lens but the DR doesn't like stop down metering so much.
- Kit lens - cheap, crappy build quality
- Sigma 20/1.8 - very nice lens but heavy and 82mm filters
- Tamron 17-35/2.8-4 - currently using this one. No complaints.

I'm missing one I cannot remember.
