FTP setup, pc120, 300d, + flash.

Recommended Posts

I just took apart my FTP, and I can't decide how to put it back togeather.

The purpose of my adventure was to make room for a flash. 550 or 580 + battery pack.

I took the 300D off the front, and was planning on putting it up top, side by side with my Dbox'd PC120. I need the PC120 to be in a Dbox otherwise I get condensation on jump-run.

I usually use a Sigma 15mm with the DigiRebel.

I was planning on putting the flash on the front bracket. I see now that the flash is within view of the Sigma 15mm, unless I pull the camera way forward on the helmet, or push it half off the side. When I pull everything way forward it feels unbalanced. Of course, pulling it all foward also gives me room to put the battery pack on the back.

To people jumping with ALL the shit up top, where have you put everything?

Ya think this thread might have some ideas for you?

You'd think so, but there's not a lot of FTP setups with flash. Most of those that were setup had custom mounts made to put the flash on top.

I'm wondering if there are peeps out there who put the flash on the front mount, and of those that did - how far forward did they have to push their SLR with a 15mm?

what do you set iso when using flash? what is fastest synch speed you can go with with the greatest flash range?

200 is the tastest shutter speed you can use a flash with the 300D.

the highest sync speed for the digital rebel is a shutterspeed of 200, but you can shoot at higher shutterspeeds if you want, you just need to set the flash at high speed sync in that case, and it's no problem. (I don't know if all flashes have this, but the 550EX does for sure)

the ISO setting, personally I go as low as possible, so most of the time I shoot at ISO 100.

Gimp has the closest set up to that you have mentioned

Andy, Yeah, i have my TRv-22 and Digi Rebel both top mounted, side by side close to the front, the back half is still completely open, i have my 550EX on the front L bracket. Few things to think about..

how are you gona hook up the flash.....Off shoe cable, or wireless?

Off shoe cable, if up front might get into camera FOV if cameras arent forward enough.

I haven't decided. Wireless is shorter?

Do you shoot 18mm or 15mm?

Personally, with only 1 flash, I would stick to the off camera shoe cord. The wireless transmitter is pretty pricy, and if you don't need it.. why get it?

Wireless is nice though B| but it's an extra thing you have to mount on top of your camera, and I think that sticks out more (from a snag perspective) than the off camera shoe cord.
