StevePhelps 0 #1 March 24, 2005 I have a Sony HC20 and I'm very satisfied with it, but since my edits are linear (I shoot only what I want to see on tape) I though of purchasing a PC109 that I "believe" has built in fades. This would make my video better without having to edit a bunch with Premiere or any other program I have. In your OPNION do you think it is worth switching to a PC109 when I have a good working HC20? pope 0 #2 March 24, 2005 If you're using your camera for anything outside of the dz, Get away from using on-camera effects. They can be done with much more control and with higher quality on a NLE system (or most decent linear editing systems, for that matter). That being said, it always helps to have a couple seconds of lead in/lead out video on each side of a clip for easier captures and better transitions. So in short, skip a new camera if you have one that works well for you now.
SkymonkeyONE 4 #3 March 30, 2005 I get by just fine on tandem videos with the fades I do "in camera". I generally use the overlap, black fade, wipe, and mosaic fades as I am taping the ground stuff. The only thing we really do on the linear board is the slo-mo stuff, a couple of still overlaps (while we are fast forwarding through the videographer canopy ride), and the titles. riggerrob 643 #5 March 30, 2005 PC109 has better resolution (1 megapixel) than HC20. The best compromise is the HC40 that I bought with the same resolution as a PC109, but $300 cheaper.

I am not willing to jump a larger camera with my prior neck problems (from shooting four way video back in the day of VHS-C).
