gthomas101 0 #1 March 19, 2005 I would like to know exactly why the para-mount system is not a good system. I have the set up with video mounted only right now, but I have not jumped it yet. I relize there are alot better systems out there that are much safer and a guy should invest the money. I looking for specific problems, Thanks Garygthomasphoto.com
diverds 0 #2 March 19, 2005 We have a camera flyer at our dz that has been jumping one for years. I think its like asking whats wrong with jumping a cruislite or some other older canopy. Probably nothing wrong with it, but there have since been better, cleaner options developed. Skydive Radio

The biggest objection I have, is that I have no intention of jumping such a big video camera, there's no point to such a big mount. That's an awefull lot of wasted real-estate. I'd much rather have a system like the Flat-Top-Pro, that gives me endless mounting options with a plethora of different sized tools. Other downsides I see, is that it's based on a Pro-tec, which is a very loud helmet - no sound insulation near the ears. I've never liked the fit of pro-tecs. The chin cup looks weak. I haven't used one, but I'm sceptical. The ringsite is the orange lolipop style, which are OK. Clearly a concentric ringsite is much better. On the other hand, the whole system is incredibly cheap. Myself, I'd rather buy something that will work better. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
RevJim 0 #4 March 19, 2005 I have a Paramount System 3 that I jump quite a bit a few years ago. It performed quite well, though I agree with Andy Man that the helmet is very loud. Without a great deal of gaffers tape, I was unable to hear my Dytter at all. After sealing the crap outta it, I could hear it again, but just barely, and then only if I was actively listening for it. The only REALLY bad part, to me, is the ring sight. Not the color, that's fine. The mounting of it. It's solid mounted to the helmet with a stud and swivel. It a snag point that just plain sucks. IMO, remove it and add a newer style break away type mount. Also, if you use the L bracket for stills, pay careful attention to snag points around it. Again, liberal amounts of gaffers tape will help mitigate this risk. Personally, I LOOOVE my Hawkeye, but I do keep the system 3 as a backup, and will not hesitate to use it again. It's your life, live it!
