HIP Bruises

Recommended Posts

B|B|
When I was on student gear I was getting 2 bruises on my hips (one on each) I put it down to the Telesis leg strap buckles.
I have been jumping my own rig now for about a month and I'm still getting hip bruises, right on the crest of the pelvis.
The rig is a Javelin J1 size 14 (i'm a little bigger than 14 inches from neck to hip).
Does anyone else have this problem.
The rig does not have hip rings and I do the legs straps up as tight as possible.???

well i had a simmilar problem. i didn't actually get bruises, but it hurted like hell once on a sit dive.

when you are in a sitting position with javelin without hip rings on, the harness bends in the way that it presses directly on your hip bones. it can be also bent so that it points away from your hip bones, that way it doesn't hurt. you just have to remember each time you exit the plane to bend the harness in the way that it doesn't point into the hip bone.

try putting it on and. sit on a chair and watch how the harness bends at your hip bones...

hope that helps

The problem might be main lift webs that are too long. If your MLWs are too long, you will never be able to tighten your leg straps enough to prevent slapping. Ask you friendly neighborhood master rigger to inspect your harness while you are wearing it.
Another way is to ask your friendly neighborhood gear dealer to measure you for a new harness, then fax the form to the manufaturer along with the serial number of your current rig. The factory will be able to tell you if your harness is even close to your body size.

thanx rob but I have a feeling it maybe the other way around, the lift web on a C14 is 14" my measurements from base of neck to crest of pelvis is 18" would this be whats causing the bruising.
(I'll post a new thread on this) Canm the web be lengthened??

Yes, that sounds like the harness is too short and the hip joint is riding above your iliac crest.
The solution to that is lengthening the harness. Fortunately it is a simple harness and the re-size is a simple matter of removing the stitching in the hip joint, sliding the leg and lateral straps down and sewing it back together. The task requires the delicate touch of a master rigger to avoid damaging the webbing and a Class 7 sewing machine to put it back together.
