Dokeman 0 #1 February 16, 2005 I have a PC101 that i need a lens for. Whats the difference between the expensive ones and the cheap ones. I was looking on ebay and they have some for $40 for 2 vs. $100+ from some of the gear stores. Will these work alright or should i stay away?. And what is a telephoto lens for? And a .5 is pretty much the standard right? JohnnyZ 0 #3 February 16, 2005 I've seen many different kinds of lenses. The Diamond 0.3 is my lens of choice. The Diamond lenses are a bit pricey, but they are built specifically for skydiving. Remember, you get what you pay for.... Also, a lot of those cheaper lenses are deeper in size, allowing less light to get into the camera. The more natural light that gets into the camera, the cleaner the picture (from my understanding). Also 0.3 is wider than 0.45 or 0.5, allowing you to get more in frame if you want to be close to the action. I just freefly and basically have my camera on for fun, and recalling what we did that day. If you are planning on filming 4-ways something like that, you might want something else. Dokeman 0 #4 February 16, 2005 so the cheap ones i found are ok and should work decent right?
AndyMan 7 #5 February 16, 2005 I don't know of anyone jumping those lenses. There's two risks. 1) That the printed magnification number isn't accurate. The .5 is really a .5, or a .3. 2) That the lens mounts aren't strong, and you'll lose the lens on the first jump. You can get a Sony or a Kenko wide angle lens for the same price or less at www.bhphotovideo.com, if you'd done a search you'd know this. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. Dokeman 0 #6 February 17, 2005 ok.. form what i have found from searching through this thread kenko are the more populat cheap-o lens. i guess thats what i need since im on a tight budget. And someone give me a model number of a good lens or a direct link to one. I would like to get out for under $50. And also, does fisheye really mean? I see some lenses that say .5 fisheye and some are just regular .5 I thought that fisheye was just the efect that you get. And i also thought that you only get it below a certain measurement. Can one .5 give the fisheye effect while another .5 dosent? Also, how do I figure out what size thread size i have.
AndyMan 7 #7 February 17, 2005 Start here. Select Kenko, from the dropdown list, select 'wide angle' from the second dropdown list, select the appropriate thread size (which you can find in your cameras manual) from the third, hit 'search', and see what comes up. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. Dokeman 0 #8 February 17, 2005 haha... 0 found.. my camera has a 30mm thread size. From lookign at B&H and on ebay, i think 37mm is the most popular.. I can then just get a step-up ring cant I? and i think I am going to go with this here Kenko Lens and Step-up Ring That will work right?
