BigM 2 #1 February 5, 2005 Just a thought- Virtually everyone you see straps some type of wide angle lens on their video camera as soon as the get it out of the box. I jump with a fairly talented video guy that never jumps with a wide angle lens (unless shooting fairly big ways) and gets amazing footage. The color always looks a bit richer and the image just looks a bit better overall. When I shoot four-way teams I take mine off and am very happy with the results, but he has his off for tandems and everything else. Always in frame, and it fills up the screen better. I realize that the wide angle gives you a bigger margin for error, but he seems to do fine. I am thinking of going "lens-less". Anybody else do this? Thoughts? BigM 2 #3 February 5, 2005 QuoteI guess you don't shoot competition video do you? Yes, some. I have shot a little 4-way. This guy has shot 4-way at nationals before... without a wide angle lens. That is why I was wondering does anyone else do this. Blue 111- Jeff "When I die, I want to go like my grandmother, who died peacefully in her sleep. FeFe 0 #4 February 5, 2005 Without w/a, it is rather difficult not to miss a grip or two on exit with 4way. It is almost impossible to show clearly first point(s) from the door with a fast 8way. It is easier to follow the team when you're close - which asks for a w/a. Most interactive (and not only) elements in skysurf will be either non-judgeble or look ugly (or both) without w/a. I've never filmed competition FF, but commom sense says that I would do it with a w/a as well. Shooting without w/a is certainly possible, but why bother? They are not that expensive, they are not hurting the quality of the picture (at leat good ones), they are not bulky and (when mounted properly) do not challenge your safety. D22369 0 #5 February 5, 2005 the only time I take my wide angle off is when I am filming CRW, and wish to stay farther away. Otherwise I like to get up close and personal with the tandems. either way works.... there isnt a right or a wrong one here. RoyThey say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it. skydivebaz 0 #6 February 5, 2005 The picture will always be better as the more glass on your cam the less light gets in, and a picture or should i say "photograph" photo being light and graph being to write means without light there is no write. so yes without the extra glass thing will be better but that does not mean good. Take the human eye, the further away you are the less detail you can see. same for the lense.
